Went out near home on sunday afternoon, caught a couple of small pike on various jigs and plastics in 5 to 8 fow. The ice was 8" thick in every hole I drilled. There were two trucks out on the ice already, don't understand why they couldn't walk the 30' from shore. Set out a tip-up at 3pm and right away got this fat 36.5"er.
I at first thought I didn't set the flag right because it almost seemed to pop right back up after it was set. And it was the biggest of the day. I got 5 more above 30"s along with a few more little ones.
Funny thing is the guys that were out on the ice when I got there wern't having any luck and packed it in just before all the action, I was the only one around when they started biting hard.
All but one small pike got released. It made a great dinner.
While filleting the pike I found what I would guess to be two 2" long white bass, one 4" long shiner and a half digested leopard frog.
