Do you prefer the black or silver traps for catching bait?  I'd guess the black "hides" better in the water?  Just looking for opinions.

Like Ron said, if you aren't having any luck try another place.
We had 11 traps out all over 3 towns til we found the spots that were producing, now we have 5 traps in one pond, and 6 in the same stretch of river that are really doing pretty good. But it took a while to find the good spots.
We were trying different bait in the traps, Different depts, Faster water, Slower water. Ponds, Lakes, anything we thought would work, any tips we got. Look for small farm ponds or fire ponds.

I also have A throw net that is getting some nice Goldies From a small pond, but was a pain to learn how to use. Can't give away all the secrets, SORRY!

Nice looking bait, I hope you are going to put some kind of filter pump in there or you will be changing stinky water alot. I did that a few years ago and my basement stunk so bad, My wife made me clean it out or get rid of the bait. I learned that the water needs to stay clean the hard way.

Brings a question to mind. Convinced my mom to let me keep a bait tank at the new apartment as long as it doesn't start to smell. I would hate to have get rid of a lot of bait mid winter because I can't keep it up to par. Problem is I can't keep the water that cool as it will be in my room. The only way I think I can do this is through a large filter, aerator, and limited food. I'm hoping the warmer temp won't have a very big effect. Any other ideas?

If you keep them inside when you go to use them on the ice put ice in the bucket a little at a time or they will get shocked when you put them in the hole and die .

nice goldies john and thanks going to pull my traps now ????

Well our traps have been soaking for 4 days tomorrow. We are going to check them after work (yes I finally went back to work on Monday, after 2 1/2 months) We are hoping to have a few fish in our traps. I am getting sick of them disapearing on us. I hope the guy doesn't get caught!!!

anybody ever try this stuff, might give it a shot.  It's about the same price as the stuff in the pet shops, and looks to be desined for bait tanks.

Can I trap minnows during the winter months? I'm moving to the house on the lake in December. I can certainly drop a trap once I move but will it be too late for the bait?

I've actually used the "finer shiner" in the past...worked very well.

This product looks very similar to that....same company.

I've been using it for years with tap water no problems it keeps their body slime up and electrolites too .
I've been using shad keeper lately as bass pro sells it in a bigger container . the flw tour has a similar product that was greenish blue that worked well also .
