Road Conditions at West Grand?

How is the access to the lake? Can you get down the amazon road from either side? Is a snowmobile necessary...is the lake starting to get soft spots around the rock piles yet? Last but not least, how's the fishing been?
Thanks!

I can help you out a little. The Amazon Road is plowed to half way between West Musquash and the Pleasant Lake turn-off. Lake ice is bare with patches of snow. If you can get a wheeler on the lake it is better going. Just keep in mind that the trails soften up in the afternoon so a wheeler may be difficult to operate. The East Side road is plowed to Horseshoe Cove on Dobsie and you can park there and take a sled or wheeler to Morrisson Cove on West Grand. This is just above Junior Bay. The Fourth Lake Road is plowed all the way through to the Dobsie Dam Road. fishing has been spotty with a lot of little togue at least on the Junior Bay end but there have been some nice whitefish caught. Hope this info helps. Where do you plan on fishing? They are drawing a lot of water through Dobsie Dam and Grand Lake Stream so beware the ice can change overnight.

Its plowed six miles in from rt 6 (amazon rd) and is getting soft and rutted during the day from logging. Not plowed from the grand lake stream end. I would advise a snowmobile to get to the lake. You would have a hard time on a warm day with a wheeler. The ice is still real good. The last two weekends it has started to fish slower than it was.

We plan on fishing in whitney cove, pineo point, or by the oxbrook. Are the salmon still biting?
We usually drive down the amazon road as far as we can from the GLS side, park, and ride the sleds the rest of the way to the lake.
Thanks guys!

A bunch od us went up for opening weekend. One guy had a wheeler. The warden tols us that owner of all the land around the Amazon Rd does not allow wheelers.
Anyone going in on W. Grand with a wheeler should park at the boat launch in GLS an go up the lake.
By the way - fishing was SLOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You've already gotten accurate info on access to the lake, just let me add that going across Route 6 from Lincoln is an adventure unto itself. Wear your four-point harness, safety helmets, and mouth guards. Tie the sleds and equipment down real good, and make plans on your return to visit either the repair shop or a vehicle dealership for replacement
