Maine State Derby Up dates....
« on: Mar 08, 2008, 10:09 AM »
Today in southern Maine it was cloudy and warm. Most took there time getting onto the ice, thinking raine.  Spring like weather, I wish I was out!

The first report of a leading fish came in around 10:30. Flick caught a 16.94 lb.,
351/2" lake trout, out to Sebago. The games are on.

I was right by that guy that caught that big pike he guessed it at 20 right out of the hole.  That was the only fish I saw caught out of about 15 fishermen.  I got skunked as usual fishing derbies.  The slush was horrible couldnt get anywhere near where I wanted to go so fished close to the boat ramp.  Slush was so bad I slid/skidded into a hole and twisted my ankle-good times-fell and got soaked-good thing it was warm.  I left as soon as it started raining about 130-145 was worried slush would get worse.  Not sure if my ankle will take it tomorrow-slush is bound to be worse!

Anyone know what the winning fish were last year? I watched my buddy catch the pickeral leader. A Shanty member Mike G saw us fumbling and pointed us in the right direction. The result was a great fish.

A real pleasure meeting you guys today.
We'll be headed out again tomorrow, although the lake is going to be pretty soupy!
Taking a snowmobile ride down to camp right now - packing the trolling motor just in case  ;D

went out to raymond beach today we got to a rough start snowmobiles were having a hard time to get on and off the ice with all of the slush  no sleep me and my dad both work 3rd so we got a late start. got to our favorite spot wasn't more then 15 min of jigging and my dad hooks into a monster, 5 min later this massive touge we had, couldn't get the head started up the hole, he kept turning side ways when we attempted.  when he finally started up the whole. i saw his mouth open, i lipped him and pulled him outta the ice.   my thumb is pretty beat up but it was wellworth it a 33.5  16.94lb laker my dad was so pumped when he pulled this beast up, biggest fresh water fish he has ever caught... good luck

Hey dad- just wanted to thank you.  I just joined the shanty recently and until now never had any idea how the statewide derby went.  Thank you very much for posting all the info here on top of trying to fish yourself and run a business and weigh everything.  I'm sure I speak for everyone.

Thanks!!!!!!!
