Gull Lake

I see everyone is heading to Gull lake for smelt. . . is it tough to catch walleye there?  I hear open water it is a good spot, correct me if i am wrong.

How far is the hike for smelt could a guy walk or should he have a ride?

a ride would be nice but its not needed, just dont bring too much stuff

hmmmm smelt.....   I have never had the fortune of a ride to catch smelt.  I would not turn it down though...I am just lazy sometimes like that.  If you go from the north end, walk straight south 400 yds and drill a hole an see if you mark fish.  You will know is they are there, cuzzz your hole screen will be red.  From there if you don't like the fish situation look around for a cluster of lantern and go fish around those guys...but you will be in for a walk.  PM me if you want some more precise info.  I will be happy to help.  8)

I have a case of beer that says I can catch more smelt closer to the launch than you and your "far out" fihsing hole!

oops I already got into the case of beer....I can't spell f.i.s.h.i.n.g.....whew .....(gulp) in fact (gulp) I think I will bring the beer next time..(gulp)....I hate it when (gulp) the beer runs out!!  Good (gulp) thing I brought some emergency whisky

I am just living the high life over here.  That's right MILLER TIME!  But honestly, if I get caught with one DUI I am fired from my job.  I don't plan on getting caught....but I don't plan on drinkin' a case and then drivin' home in the wee hours.  Have you ever had to have a designated driver to get off the lake???

Yeah, but once I get to the boat launch, I'm good to go! No, j/k. Friday night was bad enough drinking 6 beers over a time span of 7 to 8 hours. I was TIRED as all hell. Not a buzz at all, but just whipped. Luckyfish ended up having to drive the majority of the way home, I couldn't keep my eyes open. But then again, I also got up at 2:45 for work that morning. The next trip to Gull I make, I am just going to bring a cot and crash out in the portable. It isn't worth the struggle home.

Ditto that, I have access to a huge shanty.....I think I will have luckyfish drag it out for me...LOL I just gotta find a way to get it to Gull.  I need a truck!  I had a chance to pick up the clam sleeper this past summer for 250.  But I didn't have anyone to fish with so piss on it...I stuck with the pro.  Now I have more than enough buddies to fish with and...nothing to fish in. If I could lay my hand on a ice cube 6 man....I would pick it up.

Clam Sleepers are 8x8.  Great for a portable overniter.  Out of my price range for now- $500.  SOme day.  Some day.     So guys, what about catching other fish while fishing for smelt?

You can catch other fish.  But at night it is more accidental than anything.
