Quick strikes yes.  Dead bait,  only if it is on the legal bait list available in the abstracts.

As long as the rig is designed to catch one fish at a time it is legal.  Number of hooks doesn't matter.  That be the reggie.

Usually it is two treble hooks where you hook one in to the mouth of the bait and the other toward the center or the rear.  Again, it is considered as "one hook" as long as it is designed to catch one fish at a time.  Some people also call these bait harness rigs.

Anything is legal in Mass. As long as its designed to catch only one fish. You could put a dozen treble hooks in your bait if you like.

Never used them but can't imagine trying to get a treble out of a deep throat hook.  And then a possible second treble as well?  Must do some damage?? ???

I can't imagine trying to get a treble out of a deep hooked thumb.   ;D

(Image removed from quote.)

I hear ya.  Especially in da cold.  I have a hard enough time holding the bait in one hand an da hook in da other.  I think I'd hook a few fingers and then scratch my head and get hooked there too. :o

At least when I hook myself while ice fishing my hands are usually so numb I don't feel it ....till I warm up! I've seen people using quick strike rigs and personally I don't feel that they are worth the extra money or work. I've been having great success with circle hooks, I like the way they always seem to hook right in the jaw.

They make double hook quick strike rigs. A small hook goes in the side of the bait while the other hook sits up right and lies against the side of the bait. There are two hooks on each rig like this.

The quick strike rigs actually make it so that the percentage for a deep gut hook is lowered. As far as getting trebles out, I use them on about half of my tip ups and find that I have a much better hook up percentage on them, and they are really not any harder to unhok than a single hook.  I also like the quick strike rigs for the big dead suckers and slabs that I use for the pike as I think it gives a more natural presentation to the bait.  Just my two cents. ;)

You can only have five hooks one hook for every piece of bait in Mass.
CT you can three points on one line with one piece of bait six traps.

I'm sorry Bigbait but I believe you are mistaken.  I really don't want to get in to an argument so here is the regulation clipped and pasted from the MassWildlife site.  People can interpret it for themselves , but to me it has always meant that as long as the "device" was designed to catch one fish at a time then the actual number of hooks doesn't matter.

"More than two hooks for fishing or more than five hooks when ice fishing. A hook is defined as an angling device which is attached to a fishing line and which is designed to take one fish at a time, including, but not limited to, devices commonly called spinners, spoons, baitharnesses, lead head jigs or plugs, the purpose of which is to capture the fish by enticing it to take the device into its mouth."

Shay you are right I have read the regulations as well. If you used a jigging spoon with a treble hook that would not count as three traps. A hook is designed to catch one fish at a time. I don't expect to catch three perch on one treble hook.
