Even in Michigan where I came from, the smallmouths go dormant about mid December and don't bite until about late April. They slow down to the point they don't need energy so why eat, something couch potatoe-non icefishermen could learn from. Oops, NASCAR this weekend at Daytona! Sorry about that slurr on couchies.

I don't think largemouth's are as bad at winter lockjaw but they don't get caught either to speak of.
On that, where are all the gorge hog cat fish? Up the river in the mud?

go to pelican lake in vernal ut it has large mouth and i have caught a ton in there up to 4lbs thay bite fairly good all ice season.its a great place to take a kid

We have one guy in our group that gets about 1 a year....and that's it. Just fishin' for trout and gets lucky.

That's what I target everytime...lol. Have you seen the rainbow/brown trout standings. They're not updated right now...and 3rd place says 22" and change....there's a lot bigger fish on there now too. It's incredible...lots of big browns.

i did notice that, its crazy theres none bigger....just jokin. you should enter your fish! when i go to the gorge i mostly fish lakers in the mornin out deep, then after noons i'll go in a little shallower and catch the little ones just for fun! but when i go out in later in the day i go for the ling!(tryin to clean them out the best i can lol)

Went out to Buckboard last night & caught nine ling and one lake trout in Two and a half hours, three of the ling were 3lbers

I entered a 19" earlier in the year and this one was only 20". I need to get a 24" inch fish to qualify for top 3 so it's pointless upgrading an inch. Looked bigger than he was when he came out of the hole. Have only caught one ling this year....but it's been on accident....lol.

Hey John, were you in the cove or out closer to the mouth?

I was thinking of trying in the back of the cove by those cliffs for trout and ling....would be a good place for both I would thing. We tried off the south point a couple weeks ago and it was SLOW SLOW SLOW!

BTW, we might have a trip ligned up for Sunday...i'll pm you if we go out. I have a basketball game friday and saturday, so it depends when I get back to town Saturday. Should be late but not late enough for fishing.

Decided to go coyote hunting thismorning. Saw 4...called in 2 and saw 2 driving. Couldn't get any shots off. Dad's days off go to Monday and Tuesday but is on Swings (goes in at 2) so we'll be able to go on the weekends until about noon. I have Regional basketball this weekend and state the weekend after but it's Thursday, Friday, and Saturday both weekends so Sunday is still a possibility. WILL let you know.

was there much snow on the ice? what all did you catch?

There was around 4 to 6 inch's of snow and caught 3 macks was fishing at 4:45 am fish were moving good when i first got out there then slowed way down by 9

I'm headed to the gorge this weekend sometime for the first time. I'm coming from Evanston so any pointers as to where to fish? Should we stay in Rock Springs or G.R.? Any info would be great and maybe my wife and I can meet up with some of you. Thanks!

I would stay @ GR, It's right on the way... Or if you are fishing further south, Manilla (SP) Ut is a good option...

Ya that's about how it's been. My dad went to 28 earlier in the year and it was about like that so who knows. I'm thinkin' we need to try current creek. You up for sunday John? I could always drive out my truck too and then me and you could stay out after my dad leaves?
