Canned Tuna

Anyone ever used canned Tuna for bait? I bet the stuff packed in oil would really give off some scent in the water. It would probably be hard to get it to stay on a hook.

You could wrap it in a little sack like they do with eggs.

No, but I used to work with a guy that used canned baby shrimp on a jig for perch. The guy swore by it!

never used tuna but we have dumped cans of cheep sardines down our holes then put the tipup in with smelt the oil keeps the hole open and the sardines drift a underwater oily sent trail for the fish to follow but i do recommend using latex glove to mess with your fish and hose of your tipups when you get home because they get oily and smelly

I drop tuna in the holes while smelting with hali jigs tipped with waxies. Seems to keep them around unless a strong current below.

Stranger things have worked for me. I'll give it a shot (if we ever get good ice again!).

I've added cans of tuna to my rice and barley mix for chum pretty well everytime i chum... Damn good chum, nice small flakes fish pick it up well..
also throw some down your fishing... great scent and it scatters well and it's fairly slow going down the hole... attracts fish well i think
