Fished Fernan lake twice in the last 2 weeks. Ice is about 12-14” thick. Top 7” varies from firm to slush in different areas but has 5” of solid ice at the base. Mid-lake has been teeming with people fishing in past years but has been a ghost town this year. An old timer who fishes the lake a lot told me the perch and pike fishing has been slow this year.

Drowned some worms right out from the dock at the main parking lot in 9 feet of water and caught some nice 12-14” rainbows both times I went out.

Avondale:  over 12" ice on the holes I augered yesterday.  But, only a few bites between 8 and 9AM this morning (and I stuck it out until 5PM, tried several spots all over the lake including north end).  Extremely slow trout fishing this past week (10) compared to last week (over 30).  Maybe getting to the fished-out point?

I have noticed lack of oxygen in lake longer covered by ice.   Fishing gets really slow.    :-\

Heard a rumor people are ice fishing off honeysuckle at Hayden.  Any truth to this?   Any information will help.

Went out lower twin Saturday.  Little slow.  Caught some perch mostly males.  Caught a few Perch.  Sunshine was great.  Lower twin has at least 12 inches between clear ice and snow pack.

Thick!!!  Twin L has 12'', Spirit at least that, Hauser the same, Mirror the same. I went to Liberty last night and 8'' clear and 4 inches of hard white ice. The only one I would be cautious of is Priest, but I know they are fishing it.

Here is my question, who has been fishing Hayden for kokanee?  I assume that that is what they are fishing for off of Honeysuckle, but you know what they say about assuming.....it makes an ass out of u and me.

Was out on Hayden at honeysuckle today.
Ice is a clear 3.5 to 4 inches. Kokanee fishing was a bit slow. They are at all depths. Any where from 10 ft down to 100 ft.  Kinda scattered.

Tried to fish Hayden off of Honeysuckle this afternoon, and as soon as I got there the sheriff deputy had the road blocked and they were pulling that car out of the water. So much for fishing there. I went to Avondale and wasted 3 hours trying to catch a fish, I got 1 bite and only saw one fish caught.

Can you catch Kokes off the opposite end at Sportmans launch area?

I don't know the answer to that, I don't know that I can catch them at Honeysuckle but would like to try. I went back down there on my way home from Avondale to check out the ice. They apparently floated that car up and pulled it across the ice, as the hole in the ice was still there and nothing broken between there and shore. Did anyone try to fish there today?

Sounds like the 60 degrees temps on Wednesday the first day of spring will bring some open water quickly.  Be safe out there.

I and over a dozen others fished off Honeysuckle last Friday.  I was out of town for the weekend, but I heard quite a few guys fished it then also.  I tried it again this afternoon (saw only 4 other guys today), marked almost no fish but still was blessed to catch 2 kokes, a nice change from the several times I got skunked last week.  Ice still appeared to be nearly 4" thick, but I didn't auger any holes to verify thickness; bouncing caused the water to pulsate in holes 20 ft away (probably not a good sign) and the top inch was pretty slushy by later afternoon.  I did wear my lifejacket and ice picks just in case... and am now thinking that walking off the ice today with 2 kokes is a good way to end this year's very short Honeysuckle opportunity.   Avondale, on the other hand, still looks to be a foot thick; tried for an hour this evening, but no bites.

Honeysuckle is a no go. I wouldn’t try it. A couple deer went through today and drowned. What a season it was out there. Hope for another cold one next season.

Really?  Must be that candle ice is real deadly-I guess you make a small hole and you cannot get out.

We need clear cold days and nights with very little snow! The snow last year was a problem. Anyone know where the crappie hang out in Cave L and Benewah L.?
