Today's laundry tub pic...
« on: Dec 18, 2007, 04:38 PM »
Another successful trip - I haven't figured out how to post the image though

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v167/Snakehunter/100_0317.jpg

Smallest walleye was 14" and largest was just over 17". Ling was a bonus that buddy caught.
My buddy got his limit in about 15 minutes. I took an hour and a half ::)
Going for whitefish on Thursday. Hope to have another tub pic then ;)
Regards,
Glen

Cod wouldn't be bad , I would have thought more like a catfish .
Maybe because they resemble eachother .

Ling are sometimes referred to as freshwater cod. I had some this past summer that knocked my socks off. Even my daughter liked it and she hates fish.
I would never compare it to catfish. I have never had catfish where you could not discern at least the faintest muddy taste, except for cajun blackened that burned the bejeezus out of my mouth.
The ling I got today will be made up as poor mans lobster tomorrow.
Regards,
Glen
PS - VC, Me and a friend are heading out from Kenora by snowmobile on Thursday morning for whities. If you have a sled you are welcome to join us. Going to be full day - we always get a few nice ones.
Tub pics to follow ;)

Ling are Great
FYI Best way i have found to DO them is like Lobster...First i boil them in the water (after they are filleted) and also Chunked...Then Pan fry them with butter and garlic
Then let your taste buds do the rest!@:>
Great stuff bring on the Ling!
Please don't take offense to Germ's |Posts they are in no way shape or Form ...Ment to discredit or Discourage any other peoples post's..Please take Germ with a grain of salt and Rememeber it is all ment in good fun and if you Would like something changed on a post of mine mesage me ill fix it

There is also a sea fish called a Ling which i used to catch regularly in England, it looks exactly the same as the freshwater Ling here. In fact both are of the Genus Gadidae which  in normal speak means the Cod family of fish, so i guess they would taste similar to cod, i know the sea version of Ling does.....chips with that anybody?

PS SH i would have loved to have joined you but i fished all last 5 days off and have left(as usual) all that xmas shopping stuff till last minute :-\ but thanks for the offer, cant wait to see some pics. I dont have my own sled yet, in fact i dont have much more than warm clothing and a couple ice combos...but my wife's uncle down the road will lend me his polaris skidoo thingy ( lol...not a local am i) so I'll defo take you up on that some other time. Cheers and tight lines on Thursday!!

All the ling are chunky that I see in Lake of the Woods in the winter.
Somewhat thinner looking in the summer when I saw them while scuba diving at a spearfishing tourney in Manitoba this past summer. Maybe it is a seasonal thing.
Later,
Glen
