My Homemade Marmish Style Rods
« on: Feb 07, 2007, 09:41 AM »

Here are some pics of some Marmish style rods that I recently built.

Also included in the pics are some wireworm lures that I make and use and a new ice line that I came across that I really like.
I like the line because I can see it to tie lures on and it it is very fine and hi strength.

The wire spring bobbers were made out of 20, 12,or 09 gage guitar strings.Note the hook on the end of them which when they are extended out over the end of the rod to adjust the sensitivity,a 1/4 twist and pull forward locks them under the 0 ring to keep them from rotating on the rod.

The line guide on the end of the rod is a segment of figure 8 chain from Home Depot.
I secured it with a small panhead screw into a pre-drilled hole .Pre-drill first or the end of the dowel rod seems to want to split.

Another thing.. I made the loop on the end of the wire bobber 1/2" in diameter(wound it around a piece of 1/2" dowel) which allows me to slip a small jig thru so I can disconnect it from the bobber and secure it on the eye screw to keep it untangled when transporting. The spring bobber then can be slid back to keep it from getting bent in transport.

I got to try the rods out last week and loved them.I watched the fish come to the lure on the Lowrence 102c and then watcced the wire bobber "dink" and set the hook and then used the reel to fight them and wind them in..great fun.

??? Winchester88...What keeps the spring Bobbee from sliding from the top of the rod ?  Just the rubber "O" rings ?

Looks real neat.....but you may need to cut a small channel for the spring Bobbee to lay in.

Yes, the dowel is a 1/2" rod. It is set inside a piece of 3/8"X2" piece of plastic pipe.I had to sand the dowel down on the end to get it to slide into the pipe and then I wrapped that pipe with duct tape to increase it's size to fit inside of the 1/2" pipe handle. Then I secured it with a small finish nail and slid the end cap down over it.

Chuckles...
My buddy asked the same question but I find that the 0 rings are so tight that the front one up close to the end of the rod and the back end of the bobber hooked under the back ring keeps it secure.

Nice work but it reminds me more of an HT's Wood Little Jigger than of a Marmish rod.  :)
