Keeping your holes open
« on: Jan 31, 2007, 11:44 AM »
What ways does everyone use to keep their holes open.... (no jokes please)  ::)

I know some are using cans with charcoal in it.  Does this cause trouble with line breaks?

Tried this just two day's ago ! Used a small plastic peanut butter jar and a couple of disposable hand warmers inside . Left the lid loose for a little air to get in because they require air to work .
It seems to work so far and you wont burn your line or belongings if you need to put it in the sled to move .

I use black plastic gold mining pans. i cut a 1 inch slot into from the middle all the way out for the line to go through. then place it over the hole and it will keep it from freezing up. when you have a fish on just move the pan off to the side. works great. and if you get a bite while taking a little nap, (which i have been known to do) your rod will hit the cover and make some nosie which will wake you up and get the fish. i have landed many fish by this bozo factor.

covering the hole over with snow works but your hole is then full of snow.
Rain, sun, sleet, snow grab the minnows and let's go!
