Salt Fork Lake Walleye Bite
« on: Jan 09, 2007, 06:32 PM »
Saturday morning in the spill-way creek below the dam I hooked 5 saugeye from the rocks. The water level is up leading into wills creek from all the rain. Tossed 3 dinks back, lost 2 saugeye about 16"-18" trying to net in swift water from rocks but landed a 23" saugeye. They bite on a 5/8-oz jig / spinner combo with a crawler. Several boats launched into lake at dam launch. Saturday morning was good until 2:00pm and heavy rain started again. Many guys say that walleye/saugeye are not stacked up in dam area as normal. Must be the water not as cold as should be. Two guys I know said they did real good on lake fishing for bass with 4"-5" shiners. Used 1/4 oz split shot and hooked shinners in mouth. Fishing around downed tree tops and beaver huts. Still waiting on ice but boat is back up and ready. What ever happens I'll roll with.
a little jiggle never hurts
