I'm guessing I'll be on the ice at Lake McBride the weekend of January 27th. Perhaps i'm being optimistic but I guess we've got to be when we find ourselfs without ice in January.

I picked up a new Vex this year and everything........in like, October.

I'm not real familiar with McBride....I did more drinking than fishing when I went to school there. As far as ice goes?? I'm not sure when but I would say there is a possibility that there may not be healthy ice there at all...maybe a cold snap will provide a few days but we should expect to see more of the warm pac. air for the season and you are a ways south down there bro. Pack up, hit the road, head to Boji and if the fishing is slow you can always head to Tweeters and hang with other Hawks. Winter Games weekend is a blast.

If the 15 day forecast is correct from Accuweather.com

for the Coralville area, I'd say if we're lucky we'll have ice there by the weekend of 1/20, but for sure by 1/27. Of course it could snow after we get 1 inch of ice and then prevent more ice from forming like it did last yr, giving us about 1 or 2 weeks of ice fishing for the rest of this season... $:-\$ I do plan on or hope to be on local ice by 1/27, but I'll be up north on Okoboji the weekend of the 19th so I know I'll have good ice that weekend.

The Accuweather forcast looks good. Should start making good ice by the 8th. Temps are forcasted to be 4 below by the 15th. I,m taking 3 days of vacation to hit it starting on the 18th. Thats 10 days of cold weather till then. Last year it put on 8" at DW over first week of deer season with temps like these.

I have had some beers in that area as well. I just got a new Frabil 2 man ice tent and installed 3 16" lights for night fishing. I'm really hoping that we have ice by the end of January. I have been checking the extended forcast on the weather channels web site for the Cedar Rapids area, and so far it's not looking good. I feel like a kid who lives on a gravel road that got roller skates for a Christmas gift. Well, I'll keep hoping for some cold weather. Good fishing to all.

My prediction is December 12. I have all but given up on this year. Im as big of ice fisherman as they come, but with cold temps not coming, its going to be a very short season if it gets here. Load up the boats and head to Red Wing, thats taken my mind of ice fishing 3 times already this winter.

Was fishing in November..I knew this winter was gonna be a tease. For safe ice to form this year once again will be a miracle. No permanents,no vehicles on the ice,no all night walleye binges...........None of these things will happen.........There should be on AVERAGE 15 inches on Clear Lake and look what we have. It's sickening $:-\$ Im gonna go hit the bottle now

10 days in a row of lows in the single digits or teens should make plenty of ice on Clear Lake, it won't take that much to make ice since the water was already frozen once and the surface temp is near freezing. That's just basic science not a miracle... By next weekend Saturday the 13th you'll be scraping a nice thick layer of frost off your windows and you'll be icing fish on Clear Lake by the weekend of the 20th. It may not be the 15" you're used to but it'll be a lot easier to drill through.

The weather lady at 10:30 said we're headed for some high 30s through Thursday and then it's the deep freeze. I'm with phisherman that 3" is alot easier to drill through than 15" with my little hand auger.

There has GOT to be a silver lining to this season....somewhere.

The forecast looks good for Des Moines starting next Friday. Still hoping and praying. 3" and I'm goin'! 2 years in a row of this crap for us. I guess we'll try again next year.

My sister lives in OshGosh WI and said they have open lakes there too. Good to hear it's not just us. keep the reports comin'. I'll drive up north in a heart beat.

Well by the looks of things and the warming trend that is going on... it looks like we should have some safe ice to go out and fish on around 2050 (plus or minus a year or two)

Yeah, exactly what I was trying to say in my previous message on this thread. However, the 10 day forecast for northern Iowa looks like some serious ice making temperatures!!! Bring on the ice!!!

Just when ya think things are shaping up for ice fishing we get a curveball. It may get cold this weekend but theres chance of a winter storm dumping 4-8 inches on our "freshly" formed ice. Anyone that has fished plenty knows what that means! If we get that snow we'll have 2 inches of ice the rest of the year! Hope and pray we dont get dumped on...... $:-\$
