bait

I have some leftover red worms from the summer still in the fridge.  Does anyone use red worms for bait on the ice or do you just go straight to bee moths, mousies, and spikes?

I usually use what they are biting on, it just depends on their mood.
if your not walking on water, then you're not icefishing!

I use all sorts of worms and crawlers in the winter months for rainbows. do fairly well, tend to catch smaller ones when using worms over shinners

I had a credible guy tell me that sometimes pieces of redworm are all he can get finicky redears to bite in winter.
I live in the midwest now but have fond memories of fishing in New England as a kid.
