30 days out

About 30 days to first fishable ice in the lower 48.  I’ll probably wait until mid November.

Southeast Michigan, earliest I've ever been out was November 17th. I always hope for the first week of December but I've got my works sick line on speed dial for when it happens 🤣. Let's hope for a "normal" season this year... last year we only had about 1 week of ice Christmas -new years and then another week of fishable ice 1st week of February down state... it was pathetic and painful

Funniest thing about ice fishing for me is when people who know nothing about ice activities try to warn me about the dangers of the ice...

Oct 30th is earliest I've iced fished at about 7000 feet, non mountain area. I've already bought some new stuff and am ready. Last year was mid November.

I remember one time out ice fishing on Thanksgiving weekend.  Most other times usually the week or two before Xmas.

Probably more to the tune of 90 days around here, but I'm at the southern tail end of the ice belt.  :'(

I did order a couple little replacement things I need before season this morning though. Other than that, I usually wait till after deer season to get the gear ready.

I looked at some pictures from last year and I was on good ice on November 22 on a big reservoir in Wyoming.

Going to barely dip into the 20s tonight at my favorite ice holes. Getting closer.

Completely anecdotal, but in my area it seems the years where the temperature decrease is gradual and we have no early cold spells or snow, ice season comes much earlier. Been very gradual this year.

Sausage fest 2023 up North  ;)

Have ice fished Thanksgiving week quite often, but places in the high country are usually good to go eariler.
