Hi all,

It's been since about 2007 that I have been ice fishing. I am looking for a decent flip-over probably in that $1k range that will fit in the back of a Chevy Equinox with the hatch closed.

I have been reviewing the Clam Jason Mitchell Nanook and Yukon shacks at Scheels. More than likely I will be fishing solo so the 80 lbs. for the Nanook plus whatever other gear I have sounds manageable. Does anyone partner fish using the Nanook and what are your recommendations?

For the few times a season I might have a guest it would be nice to have shoulder room and gear space but it would come with about a 34 lbs. added weight, provided the Yukon fits in the Equinox. Does anyone have experience hauling the Yukon in an Equinox?

/cheers!

What are your dimensions of the  2022 Chevy Equinox ? My recommendation would be the Eskimo Sierra thermal ..the seats can be removed ezpz and the windows can also be removed . Clam sews in their windows .

I used a 2 man in an SUV for a couple seasons. What you have to look out for is the overall length of the sled, you'll have enough room width and heightwise with pretty much anything. Most of the smaller 2 man flip-overs are at or just a little more than 60", which is pushing it in most SUVs besides the bigger ones like a Traverse.

If it were me, I'd be looking at that new Eskimo Eskape 2000. It's small for a 2 man but it looks like it would be an ideal big 1 man flip over. The sled on that one is a little shorter at 52". It does use a bench seat, so you couldn't take one seat out to save weight when you are solo. I don't think I'd want that bench seat for everyday use with two people, but if it's occasional like you mentioned, I think it would be OK. It's a new model so not many if any reviews, but I don't have any complaints with any of the other Eskimo stuff I have.

I would echo the comments on the Eskimo flip over shelters-- I can fit an Eskimo Eskape 2600 in my Subaru Forester (barely, it's pretty tight). If I were to do it over again, I would have gone with the Eskape 2400 or the new 2000. If you're looking for the most pullable, you'd save 16 lbs in the 2000 vs. the 2400. I just felt like Eskimo specifically had the best "bang-for-my-buck" in the flip-overs, and I really like the side door/frame design. Towed it all over Minnesota & Ontario last winter and it held up great. I came from a Clam flip over, and find the mesh seating in my Eskape to be much more comfortable as well. Another odd thing I would pay attention to is window height if you go to check any of them out before buying, because they do vary a bit from brand to brand.

I'm picking up a WideOne XR this year for a lightweight solo shelter, because the 2600 is pretty heavy/difficult to load into my SUV on a regular basis.

That new eskape 2000 really caught my eye. Seems closer to the old frabill 2-man (Ranger?) that just barely fits in the bed of my chevy colorado short box under my hard cover. I have to presume that's about the same capacity as an equinox.

All the comforts of a quality 2 man, but compact and light enough that one reasonably fit adult can manage it by themselves iff need be

Thank you all for the information.

I measured the Equinox from back of the driver seat to the hatch and it measures 69 inches at the shortest distance. Based on the dimensions for the Clam Yukon I should be able to fit it in the back of an Equinox.

/cheers!

You have room for many options ...not seeing many sales/deals on any flip overs now ...so waiting is probably best ..Scheels  some times have free shipping on certain models ...and some times have exclusive add ons ...like a cover and will price match .. Home Depot sells Clam and Eskimo and have price matched in the past and offer free shipping at times or free ship to store . Shipping usually kills a killer deal .

Welcome to Ice Shanty. I own a 2015 GMC Terrain which I believe is similar in size to your vehicle sent you a private message with cargo area measurements. When you log-in on the line under welcome greetings that start with the word Home you should see Message and a (1)  click on that and it open your message page. Just for your knowledge some members refer to these messages as PM's.

I fit my Nanook XL in my equinox with the rear seats down.  I fish it by myself most of the time (put an extra seat bracket on the middle), but it works great for 2

A Clam Yukon fits in my 2020. BARELY. There are some things to consider. It takes 2 people to load it. Its not like my truck where I could put it up on the tailgate and lift it in. With the Yukon my auger fits in the tub. Which is good because there is no other room. Also, had to move seats forward, so depending on you, you might as well. This could make a long drive not as pleasant. So if you go smaller than a Yukon, you will have to make room for the auger somewhere.

Thanks for bringing the auger and longer items consideration to the surface. I hadn’t thought of that being a problem.

Auger can ride shotgun. Just remember to put on its seat belt
