2007 Adirondack Get-Together
« on: Nov 29, 2006, 10:34 AM »
Well guys, it's getting to be that time of year again.  In January, we had the first annual Adirondack Get-Together on Simon Pond, and had great attendance.  As those of you who attended can attest to, it was an AWESOME time!  I personally think that this years get-together should be right where we had last years.  Right now I won't get too specific, but let's hear some input on dates, locations, etc..., and a rough estimate of who is interested in doing it again!  :)

Count me in as well... Simon Pond was a ton of fun, I would be willing to make another trip there.. but someplace new sounds fun as well. It is to early to say if the King will provide us with solid ice this year.. but that is another option!
I would think mid to late Jan would be good for dates..

I'd hate to plan on the King, just because it's so unpredictable.  Otherwise that would be awesome!  But I'm up for other options too!  That's why I posted this early...The more discussion we have, the more we can plan this out.  :)

Yep lots of places to go!!
The King would be excellent. There are some really nice island camping spots just up from Vet's park and I'm sure we can accomodate transportation for people sleeping out.

Raquette is also nice.
Long lake has some lean-to's.
Indian has some fat lakers and tons of smelt.

Maybe as the time gets closer we can do a poll?
And we'll have more info on ice conditions.

I would love to see one on the King but with 60 degree temps, we better start dumping truck loads of ice in to the lake.  :P

I'm not sure, you guys would be supprised, I live 5 minutes from the king( bless the lord :-p) and it gets wicked cold at night, usually a hard frost every night, and I bet the water is in the low-mid 40's already. A lot of ponds around the warrensburg area have skims of ice on them everymorning, were just waiting for that 3-4 day constant cold snap to be set. Don't be supprised if your on the king by mid January.

The king would be a great place to get together, but that is more a later in the season type event as even with perfect weather first ice is not until Late January.  I would say plan something for a bit earlier a week or so after New Years maybe and someplace central for most in the area who would want to come.  My suggestions would be Raquette or Indian but tradition is also fun so you guys who went to Simon Pond may just want to keep it their.  Either way set a date and hope the weather cooperates.

I'm with Robb, lets see how the the ice gathers and things get started.
Then take a a poll on the chosen spot to get together.
Any lake with some Lakers and LLS would be nice, not to mention smelt just in case we have to jig up bait.

By the way, Wellsy's in

I vote for trout fishing somewhere. Simon rocked and we had a blast, but I think it would be cool to bounce around a bit. Theres a lot of water up here and we could surely find another killer spot to do it. It would be advantageous to pick a spot with a lean-to so we could set up shop and then go from there. Ill get some info rollin too in the coming month.

Sounds like fun again.  I wonder if the new bait regs are going to put a hamper on any get together? I think frozen smelt are going to be legal still, we might want to go for pike if bait becomes a big issue.

How about Lake Eaton?  There's a state campground we can park at with BBQ's and I think they have bathrooms open in the winter.  It's an easy lake to explore as it's not too big, but it's big enough so we won't all be on top of each other.  There are some beauty lakers and salmon in there.

I might come over from Vermont. What fish do you find in Simon, Raquette, etc.  I prefer bluegills, which are normally found wherever you find pike. Or are they trout lakes.

I've never fished simon but the rest listed are primarily target trout lakes, but not the only specie swimmin around. You just might need to tuck into a bay or go a little closer to land than the guys jiggin up lakers.

Jim, I was counting on you guys being there last year...you better make it this year!  :D

As far as the other questions...Simon Pond is actually part of Tupper Lake.  It's fairly shallow, with some good weeds.  There are a ton of pike in there, and a really good number of walleyes, which get to decent size...I think Coldbum and I each got one about 22".  And of course there are perch.  Tupper Lake itself has pike, walleyes, lakers, and salmon (and again, perch).  Again, we're just in the planning stages...I'm glad to see so many people already interested in this.  Last year was awesome, and this year I hope to make it even better.  Thanks guys!  Keep the ideas coming!

I would like either the King or Lake Eaton. I would think that Eaton would ice alot sooner than than the king. Either one works for me :)

Pick one with 6" of clear/black ice that we can 'Read' through with ice transponders and a bar with an enclosed
veranda so's we can all sit in one spot for a while and comisserate while watching for flags out on the ice. Then the bar's 'Fish Valet' can be summond to go out and haul in the fish, re-bait, clear the holes, and for an extra fifty cents each, drill holes in the best spots. That way I can guarentee that MY Missfishilicious will be there. ;D ;D ;D ::)
