When they are at home, they are in a big jar in the back corner of the fridge where the wife doesn't immediately see them and complain.  (I buy them in bulk)  When on the ice, they are in film containers or baby food jars.  Right now it is 45 and raining, so I am keeping them at the store.

My spikes and mousies, when I have them, are kept in the fridge, hidden from the wife.  While she wants to learn to icefish, she doesn't like having them with the food.

Something about sanitation.... ;D

YES! They are great! Someone finally got smart and made them in different colors this year. I had a bad habit of freezing or crushing my baits... Not anymore! ;D

Next to the beer in the fridge. If your beer is too warm, so are your grubs !

If you put any insect in larval stage in a cold environment they are going to go into a form of dormancy. In order to manufacture a cocoon the worm would have to exert more energy then what it is able to produce, given its current state of temperature.

OK,... if you do not have a basement, or a heated garage, and your wife is not cool, are all these critters in the fridge in cognito? How long can you get away with that? Then what?  ;D

mmmm......tasty , and apparently fear is not a factor for you!
However, fear definitely seems to be a factor for some of us playing hide-go-seek in the fridge.

My spikes are in the fridge, and the waxies are in the cellar. The Bait Pucks are nice, but the container that Ice Breaker mints also work great and free with the mints. They have a large opening to fill them and a small one to shake out 1 or 2. Use different flavor/color tins for different bait. Flat to fit in the pockets also.

Broke down at Ice Fishing show and got 2 small baitpucks, and 1 large baitpuck all for $5. So, I am gonna try those out.

We have mealworms, waxworms in the fridge year round for the kids lizard anyway, so my icefishing bait goes unnoticed. Removing any darkening or black waxies right away helps keep the others alive longer.
If you jig it...... They will come.

Spikes and mealworms in the fridge and waxworms in the basement is correct, spikes and mealworms when in the fridge should not be moving and if they its too warm, adjust the temperature little by little until they stop moving, waxworms need to be around 45-55 degrees which is warmer than you can provide in the fridge, basement or garage floor is usually ideal.

If you want to keep your spikes and mealworms for a very extended period like 3 months or more you need to put them in a box in a warm place with some hamburger for spikes and sliced potatoes for mealworms and let them consume some moisture for about an hour.

I've done this for years now with great success, bait last 3-5 months

Good info. The waxies seem to be my biggest problem because I do not have a basement or heated garage, however the "baitpuck" seems to be handling them for now in the warmest part of the fridge. THX gator & OZZY

I have my own refrigerator in the basement that I keep them in, I keep the temp at 40, I also keep my extra line in there with spools off summer firshing rods, the line lasts a lot longer.

Just wondering Rat-Man, is there any specific reason why this is true about the line lasting longer if kept in the fridge? I have heard this before. THX
