Ouch . . . First Skunk of the New Year
« on: Jan 01, 2023, 06:04 PM »
I went ice fishing on Fish Pond (Windsor Lake) in North Adams today from about 1 to 5 PM.

I had the place to myself.

Partly to mostly cloudy, 40 degrees, fairly constant light wind.

There was about 5 to 6 inches of poor quality ice with (thankfully) no water on top.

I only had a few nigthcrawlers with me, so I set a couple dead sticks and also hopped around and jigged various spots.

Nothing on the dead sticks.

I had a couple very light taps on the jig, but no solid hits.

Funny, because the same spots were producing like great guns just last week.

Guess that's why they call it fishing, not catching.

Thinking of going there today.  Hope I have a bit better luck.  Got the day off luckily, hopefully the cold at the end of this week will help the season out

My fishing buddy and I are too old to handle the morning cold, so we went out only in the afternoon a dozen times last year. We never caught much of anything. Not even bluegill jigging. I think I hear the gravitationally enhanced lady singing.

Yeah, that’s a bummer. You probably could have used a few shiners to help you out to improve your chances, but worked with what you had. Tough to take, but hopefully better days to come and the ice maintains to keep getting out.

I really want to try that place in the winter.
