It won't survive the warmer days this week, but Hills Creek is primed and ready for a December cold snap! Ice was building in the coves this afternoon and should make a little more tonight too.

We will start posting ice updates again next week sometime. Hills Creek is nearly completely frozen today and temps look great to continue to build ice for the most part. We don't have any super cold nights to lay it down quickly, but lows in the high teens and low twenties mixed with only a few days with highs in the mid thirties, should get the process rolling.

Like much of PA, we're getting hammered pretty good with a wintery mix of freezing rain, sleet, and snow today. We will update later this week, but right now most of the smaller waters are at least partially skimmed over and parts of the bigger lakes are also freezing.

Tioga County ICE updates are posted in the reports section. The smaller lakes are about 99% frozen with 2" of clear ice and another inch of frozen slop on the top. Check out our Facebook and Instagram stories too for more details. @wellsborotackleshack

Tioga County ice updates are available on the reports page. Hills Creek and Beechwood are both looking pretty good. A few people have been fishing Hills. Hamilton is blown out for a few days, and Nessmuk is up a little and the ice was inaccessible last night, but should tighten up by Monday. Temps dropped to 6 below last night. Right now its -4. Makin ice!

12/30/2022. Reports are up in the reports section too, but here is the summary for Tioga County from our Facebook page. Be sure to check out our Facebook and Instagram (@wellsborotackleshack) stories from today for more info too

As we look towards the new year, warm weather is moving through the region, but ice on the smaller lakes is holding up well and should remain fishable through the weekend. Quite a few people were out today. Always check conditions yourself before venturing onto the lakes. These reports are for your reference only. Warmer weather like this leads to changing and varied conditions. These next few days are supposed to be cooler, but still above freezing. Conditions will detoriate until cold weather sets back in. That is looking promising for late next week.

Nessmuk- Anglers accessed the ice from both ends of the lake. We checked the boat launch area and there is quite a bit of water on the ice at the bottom of the ramp. We were able to get on without issue, but boots are a must here. There is water on the ice and we marked about 7" of ice in our test holes. The top inch to two inches is soft white ice, but there is better ice below.

Hamilton- Water levels are back down, which has caused ice sheets to break off on the shoreline. Edges were hard, but had a lot of water on top from runoff coming off the hill. The water appears to have clears up too. Similarly, there was about 7" - 7.5" of ice on the dam end with the top couple inches being sloppy white ice. The boat launch is very dirty, but we were able to get on here. Again, there is water on the edge on top of the ice. Further out, it is in better shape. The ice varied more here, anywhere from about 6-7 inches.

Beechwood- Quite a few people were fishing here. There is water on the ice and the edge was still solid. No issues getting on or off. Ice measured about 8" coming off the boat launch area. Be aware the entrance road and parking lot are still a bit icy

Hills Creek State Park- Quite a few people were fishing on Hills. We talked a few people and the bite was mixed with decent bluegills and a lots of small perch mixed in. Some crappies were being caught too. Edges are solid at both launches. Near the Pines launch, there is a ton of Pine tree debris on the ice. Ice measured about 7" on the stumps end and closer to 6.5" off the Pines launch.

We received big shipments of bait and are ready to help you have a great weekend of ice fishing. Good luck and be safe out there. We will update again next week, once this warm weather passes through. Think cold thoughts and bring the cold vibes to get this weather back on track!

**1/6/2023 Tioga County ICE Update**
Summary update from our facebook page. Check out our Instagram (@Wellsborotackleshack) and Facebook stories from today for video updates too.

Hills Creek State Park faired the rains and warmup well, and the top layer of junk ice is gone, leaving about 4.5" to almost 5" of mostly clear ice in the holes we checked off both the Pines Launch and Beaver Huts launch. There is a little cracked ice at the boat launches, but we were able to get on and off with no issue and this should firm back up tonight too. A few groups were out fishing around the middle of the lake and there was a dusting of snow on the ice.

Beechwood- We expected to see better conditions here, but the water is up a little and there is open water in the cove near the launch, by the pipe coming under the road. The edge was soft, but frozen. We found about 3-3.5" of ice coming off the concrete wall, and did not venture further. This was clear ice and a nice baselayer for the next cold snap. Here too, there is a dusting of snow.

Hamilton- Hamilton is up again and the creek channel has opened up from the boat launch out a couple hundred yards or so. The dam end is frozen, but the edges are a mix of soft and new ice, making it inaccessible. An angler was fly fishing near the dock. This area typically holds trout all year long.

Nessmuk- The lake is frozen completely, except for a tiny spot around the spillway area. The edges were thin, new ice, and we were unable to access the lake.
