Dr. do you keep your waxies in the fridge, when you have them? I have found that they don't do well in the fridge. I keep mine on the top step of my basement stairs, where it is cool, not cold. Spikes however, must be kept in the fridge. I made the mistake "ONCE", of keeping them on the top step along with my waxies!
Not to be argumentative but I buy two tubs of 1000 waxies every year, in November and usually have some left over in March. I haven't found them to be hard to keep, at all. I keep them in a cool place, not cold, and I go through them every week and take out any that are brown, before they start to rot. Have "never" had a problem keeping them for months. In fact, I usually have some leftover that I use for catching gills on the beds with long poles. This is just another example of people liking different things and things that worl for one but not another.
