Headed up to the pass looking for some safe ice on first hardwater trip this year and finally found it. Folks must be starved for ice as I have never seen so many folks up at Joe Wright as on Saturday, prob were 15+ parked by the dam and about 10 in the middle lot. Hotspotting on fish exploder must have done the trick!!
Hut set up in the 25+ winds in 20-30 ft of water saw plenty of greyling to around 12" coming through the hole, very aggressive. Called it quits after about 2 when it really starting blowing. Everywhere I drilled was 6-8" of nice clear ice.
Didn't walk down to Chambers and no one was parked at the campground. Gonna try to get down there over the holiday.
Popped a few holes on Barnes Meadow as I have never iced it and found sketchy edges with open water here and there. Once on the lake it was around 3-4". Caught a few stockers in the 30 min we were there.
Amazing the difference in ice between the two lakes.
All in all a good day and temps are finally looking better from here on!
