lanyard for Cell phone
« on: Nov 29, 2021, 11:24 AM »
I'm a paranoid person. I worry about my cell phn going down the hole or going overboard while fishing. I just got a new phn and looking at the OtterBox Defender case. It does not have a wrist strap loop molded into the frame. Any of you guys that use a lanyard have a way to add a lanyard to a case with no loop?

Epoxy a keychain ring to the back or side and snap lanyard to it.  ::)

I never worry about losing it. I leave it in my truck. I'll call you back when I get there. Just like the old days. Ya' I know...emergencies. Had 'em back then too. Seemed to make out alright. Part of the reason I'm out there...don't want to talk to people. But that's just me.

A big X2 for me also. Last thing I want is more electronic doo-dads around. Only allowable 'tronics is the fish finder. I'm out there fishing to GET AWAY from all that. But, that's what rocks my boat.

Or, use a zippered coat pocket................ ................

One word, navionics.  Cell phones do way more than play games  ;).  Also a line of communication to share location and success with friends on the same body of water is pretty awesome.

Guess I just prefer a quiet spot without hordes of more guys crowding in from a hot text. Been down that road before. That's what ruins things. Whatever works for ya. Back to the lanyard search.............

If you're that worried about losing your phone just super glue it to your hand. You're going to be playing with that more than fishing. In fact, may as well stay offa the ice and free up your secret spot for someone that'll actually fish.

Alternative: Shut it off and put it somewhere safe where you can get your hands on it in the event of an emergency. Enjoy your fishing time...

Next question...  ;)
To fish or not to fish? That's a stupid question!

Having had a phone come out of my jacket pocket and fall perfectly centered and lined up straight through the hole, I now use the rogue phone tether and it works great. I have my pliers on one of their small tethers as well.

Several tournaments I fish are going/already went digital for the measuring and entry of fish, so having it handy is a must.

I'll save the story of my brothers BIL dropping his not even 24 hour used phone down into the drink which is one of most hilarious stories in my ice fishing times.  I use the Rogue phone tether as well and I actually use it during hunting season too as don't like dropping my phone in the mud or dirt, stream, or deceased game.  Not to big of a problem for me mostly as I don't often use my phone on the ice other than for the photos.
If only God would come down in the form of a man and explain everything to us.

I know a Guy who walked on water and it wasn't frozen.

Look at where Jesus went to pick people. He didn’t go to colleges… he got guys off the fishing docks.

Dropped mine down a hole 2 years in a row.  I swear an ice hole is a phone magnet!  I now use a tether.

BTW-Lots of reasons to have your phone on the ice other than facebook and texting  ::)

I use my phone with the Navionics boating app for contours, so it's always with me. I've lost three phones down the hole over the years! Needless to say I make damn sure my phone has the insurance covering loss! The last one was last winter, and after that I started using this Tether. There's nothing quite like hearing a splash and looking down the hole to see that thing slowly sinking in that back and forth motion to the bottom!

My phone goes in a zippered pocket and my immediate family is instructed to not contact me when I'm fishing unless necessary. This way my wife bugs my son when we are fishimg. My friends are welcome to call any time.
It seems to go from zero to hero all some have to do is lie.

No. (I just tried it!) That's why the lanyard. It's waterproof if you can manage to retrieve it. Mine comes along for emergencies, pics, etc.... It's kept zipped in an inner pocket unless needed! Ice fishing holes are phone magnets!!  :woot: ;)2
