1st Walleyes of The Season
« on: Nov 09, 2006, 06:12 PM »
Checked out LOTP this afternoon.  I lost the very 1st one I hooked of course, then got this one and another about the same size.  All within about a half hour and I didn't stay till dark, likely would have limited out if I did. I was happy to start the season off right, with a couple keepers, so I left a little early, but, I'll be back again soon.   ;D

Thanks guys.  Theres about 3-4 inches of ice on the north end of the lake, the rest of the lake I am not sure on, last week there was ice on the north end but still wide open down at pyotts, if its still not open down there, likely only an inch or two.

Good observation WW.  This is my early early season spot where the old river bed comes in right tight to shore.  I was fishing in 15-25 fow.

Best part of first ice is that one only has a couple inches of ice to cut. Take any old hand auger out and have no trouble punching a bunch of holes. Nice walleye... has to be the earlyest hardwater wallies that I can ever recall.

Congrats...based on the comments and such, I'd say we have a few ice-starved individuals around here  ;D  I've got enough to keep me busy this weekend without even thinking about fishing (not that I won't)...of course, we're getting some cooler weather down here now too - on Monday I may just have to check out a few locales personally.

Last time I was out there was 6 inches, and that was over a week ago.  They were still biting, I didn't do great but still caught a few.  With this cold weather lately there should be 7 or 8 inches, and the fish should still be biting, its always pretty good up until Xmas. Good Luck.
