Crazy day
« on: Jan 23, 2021, 04:33 PM »
I went to a local easy access pond and there was a nice gentleman fishing nearby. I'm glad he was there to share in the laughs.

I was barely set up when tip up 3 went off. Hit and run.

Trying to get my heater going, then see #1 and #2 are both up! Stopped at #1, looked like a hit and run, so headed to #2. Yay! About a 22" pick. Thumbs locked up, so I had to go warm my hands. I figured this would be a keeper to try the 5 fillet method on, so no harm in leaving him out.

Warmed my hands and went back to reset #1. It felt like there was a boot on the other end! Turned out to be a pick that wrapped my line around himself about 80 times and I was pulling him up sideways. Okay, now I'm just going to have two to fillet.

(Still haven't managed to do any jigging in the flipover at this point, but wanting to lol)

Heading back to #2, #3 went off again. Same. Hit and run. Get back to #2, and my line is cut off and there is no fish on the ice! Okay, good, only one to fillet now. Free Willy.

Grabbed bondage boy (the fish, not the guy on the pond) and the tip up, and went in the portable to make sense of it, when I realized part of my line and the hook from #2 are part of the cluster(thing) wrapped around the fish. I must have dragged it back on the bottom of my boot. Throw the cluster(thing) tip up back in the bucket. This is a job for reading glasses and a woodstove backdrop. Oh, look! #3 is at it again! I had about 5 hit and runs on that one, so this time, I pulled it up. That's when I caught Tripper. A perch to rival any other 5" perch. The guy I met was laughing when, at one point, I said "Oh no. Again?"

Now I'm going to jig. I was shallow and able to sight fish and could see the tiniest of the perch world gathered around. I caught and released baby perch for a while with only one tip up still going, #4. Just as I went out to say goodbye to my day's fishing partner, I got a flag. It felt like another monster perch, so I was glad that he released himself.

So now at the end of the day, I have a comical day to look back on, a nice fellow fisherman to have met, and a 24" slime dart to attempt to fillet. Yes, I have pictures, but I don't know how to go from the phone to here. So yeah, it's a 34" pickerel.  ;D

Great Post Guinea! Thanks for sharing.

I thought hard about Newfound today, but figured that was a cluster waiting to happen.

Roc, I can just picture her walking by, thinking "Keep on walking. He's nuts. Don't engage in conversation" lol

I'm glad you guys saw the humor!

Fishon, I haven't even considered Newfound. It must be combat fishing where available. Cluster(thing)ery, as I like to say. My mom is so proud of me.  ;D

On my phone the “Add image to post” starts the process of adding pics to a reply.

And then just follow the click through to your photo library

Click “choose images”

Click “photo library”

Choose the images you want and then click “Add”

I’m here primarily for the fish pics and learn how to catch the fish for fish pics.  ::)

Well, the fries were good.  ::) lol
I got a few bites, anyway. Next time I'll try the cube cutting method and make chowder.

I did think of you when I looked at the tangled mess. I'm just going to cut it and start over. Leader isn't that expensive lol.

Is there a way to get rid of some of the slime? I rinsed and wiped it down, but I still ended up with snot everywhere. I have yet to hose down the kitchen.

Use newspaper (or the never ending market basket flyers that are the right size) Lets you grip the slimy, snotty ditch pickle and helps to wipe the snot away.
Useful for any slimy critter!
Now...for that bit of info, I'll take some "silly selfies"   ;D

You'll have to ask Reynard, my yard fox. He got most of it. I was really hoping that I was a natural, but I'm not lol.
