So I recently found this box that was given to me long ago by my grandfather. Are these lures any good? I'm just getting in to ice fishing
Save a few for keep sakes and use the rest some of my best jigs are just like those you'll catch fish on them that's for sure
Some of those look like Katy jigs. A local jig around Sandy Creek ,Pulaski etc. yes they work great. But as previously posted ... maybe get a nice piece of driftwood and hang some up. Those are solid memories.
Welcome to the site Spit..That’s great your getting into ice fishing and your grandfather is passing it down to you.. Not sure where you are or going to fish but those are some nice perch, crappie and bluegill jigs. They were made to be used so go do it..
Post made me think of Rat, (RiverRat2) he loved talking bout the jigs. He would have given a detailed reply too.
The chrome one on the top left reminds me of a heddon sonar, which work great for walleye and pike (ironically that's what my gramps used for walleye)...the rest are good for pan fish for sure!As mentioned above I personally would hold on to most of them but that's just me
Wish I could have picked his brain I need all the help I can get!
Rat is gone, but his posts live on. you may have to page thru a bit cause he posted to the daily temp thread alot. But some good replies and fun in there. link below:https://www.iceshanty.com/ice_fishing/index.php?action=profile;area=showposts;u=9061
He must have used the willow leaf lures the most cause there's no paint on their hooks. Most of the other jigs still have paint on the hooks. He also has a jigging bobber in the box. Do you know or remember how he did the bobber roll? Years back we use to roll the small bobbers just under the surface of the water and watch for a different movement in the roll that indicated a bite. That brings back memories.
Ohspit I know rite where you are. Those jigs are killers in your back yard. I'm a real fan of those Katys would love to try some of those others which I have never seen before
That's interesting I figured they were depth markers for tipups after you sounded the hole. I don't know what you mean by the bobber roll
