Whatever is cheap. The fish don't care. I typically use BarS because they are super cheap, fairly dense so they stay on a hook better than some others, and are generally unfit for human consumption.

Even if they are on sale, I do recommend not using Oscar Mayer, though. They rip off a hook pretty easily, so you'll get a lot stolen by panfish.

The cheap, nasty to eat ones make very economical bait. A pack of them goes a long way fishing. I use about 1/3 at a time, so that's 24+ baitings for a buck or less.

I don't care which brand is best, I've never, ever, fished for stinklogs. Caught a few as bycatch, cursed the luck.  As soon as we have good ice on our pike lakes, I'm gonna do it. With hot dogs for bait. Just for the thrill of shocking my buddies, heck they sit and watch nothing happen all day with expensive bait. Why not use bait you can eat if the fishing is slow? Two packs of my favorite franks, one for the fish, one for me. Won't forget the suds either, none for Mr. Stinker.

I have an Air Fryer and can cook them up like a piece of leather. Then it will stay on the hook better.

I generally don't fish for them either. The hotdogs are catfish bait for me, but the northerns and small walleyes (like 12-14") are bycatch.

I had a small-ish drum hit one, once, too. That was kind of surprising to find at the end of the line.

I can't believe there's a "best hot dog" thread for pike....and that I got involved in it 

So, might as well dive in for all the soon to be weenie afficiondo's.....next will be best hook to use, best method to use yer weenie.....grilled or right outta the pkg...so let's get informed!

I use a 1/0 Gama Big River Bait for mine and keep the dog up the shank by the eye. I just run hooks a bit small as a general rule, and I don't keep the fish, so I try to avoid running trebles. I use the same hooks for my stinkbait dip worm rigs, too.

Thats whats making me grumpy.theres no barely snowfall here either and when ice does get here lake effect snow will screw it up.
