Fighting back the ice!,
« on: Nov 30, 2020, 03:01 PM »
::) ::)  Local trout pond has been skimmed over for two weeks.
BUT!  Two local fishermen continue to troll for stocked rainbows?
My boat has been wrapped up for ten days and will stay that way until April.  OK!  It's raining and cold today but these guys busted half inch of ice create enough open water to drift fish.
Am I just old and grumpy or am I just jealous of those more devout than me?  I'm tired of being stuck at home but NOAA report tells me I will have safe ice in three weeks.
I've waited for open water for Wolfboro salmon. I guess I can wait for safe ice again.

I understand, Dick. I hate seeing ice get broken!

Are you getting this rain or is it a little more frozen up your way?

Grumpy/jealous sums it up for me. Dick, you're up north, you'll have at least a week on us in the southern shire. I'm thinking after this rain today I'm gonna bring my 12' to one of those year round ponds and give those fish an education!

Lots of rain here. But, cold night in forecast.  Ice before Christmas.

:P Now I know I'm jealous.  Fishermen were on pond again today and netting trout while they ate lunch.  Pond was open and weather was 50 degree sprinkles.
Would seem that any NH general regulation trout pond would produce fish until Christmas.

Yeah, nice that some ponds/lakes containing trout are open past Oct 15.  Kinda wish more were, where's there's no natural reproduction like Lucas or Stonehouse here near the coast.

I made the mistake of looking at the weather as compared to a year ago.  28 for the high and 9 for the low.  We fish the first week of December.   I hope to be on before Christmas.

  ;D.   Freezing nights thru next Tuesday.  Slightly above freezing days will limit ice formation.  BUT,  Freezing Degree Day computations show that I will have a full inch of ice on local ponds.  It's a start.  If temps stay the same I should have four inches of ice by New Year's day.
Would be nice if temps drop further below freezing.  I remember many 20 below Christmas weekend.
I'm going to order my ice fishing bait .
