I've been watching these threads on gloves for years.  I have tried them all I think.  I have dozens of pairs laying around.  My hands still get cold, even in big Ice Armor mittens.  I scoffed at a muff that just didn't seem any better than pockets on my jacket.  This year, I tried a cheap muff that I had laying around.  Amazingly, my hands stay warmer in it.  I can't explain why.  As a bonus, I can even put a few tools in the pocket.  I alternate a bare hand on the rod with the other in the muff while I am jigging.  I guess that I don't have to move to Texas after all... ha ha.

I have been doing my winter trout fishing the last couple years with the BBQ setup...cheap cotton liner under black nitrile.  Keeps the hands dry and you lose almost no dexterity.  I can re-tie with them on.  When ice fishing, I bring along my Cabelas gortex/leather mittens and will pop my hands in them for a few minutes when they get cold.  This set up is ideal for me and after many years of frustration with cold fingers, this system works best.

I wear Cabela's Gortex Pinnacle Gloves and also have Cabela's Gortex Pinnacle Mittens for extreme cold use when on a snow machine.  They are not cheap but good isn't cheap, $80.00
