Just a pair of really comfy underware. Loud crack and a drop....

The only time that scared me worse then that was the upper red trip on 12/19/2016. We were out fishing and a breaker came through. Shook the wheel house.....opened the door only to see the ice buckling and pushing up about 25yrds away...and a 2 foot crack opening to the north of up us thinking **censored** is gonna happen.

I use a 50 foot rope to pull my sled when on sketchy ice. I for sure don't want to worry about my gear when I go in. If I have a buddy, we stay that far apart, and hold on to the rope so we won't have to throw it if one or the other goes through.
Another good thing about taking a buddy- chances of 2 people having bad judgement at the same time are very low. One or the other of us has always chickened out before we fell in.
Alone, my record is not perfect...

Maybe it is just me  :(

I like Aaron's videos but I've never seen him using a spud...not sure why.  In any event I am glad he's ok.

He uses an axe

i used an axe for a long time and got wet more than a handful of times because of it. The spud is a way more efficient and effective tool for keeping your body above the ice.

Without question.  I've only seen him use an ax a couple of times in his content. Funny thing is he has every bit of gear one could want but no spud?

Drowned. Yesterday or today there was a man who fell through the ice and drowned at a pond at Fort Peck, Montana. Said he was trying to rescue his dog that had fallen through. Said he was a fishing guide. The article is on Montanaoutdoorradio program web site. Prayers for the family. Whitetail

I haven't fallen through any new ice.  I just fall through the same old ice I always fall through. .
