Off Season Storage
« on: Oct 25, 2020, 08:53 PM »
My basement fishing storage has turned into an absolute mess. Usually I just drag the sled in and leave it where it is until next season. Resulting in a mixed bag as far as longevity and condition of my equipment.

I'm trying to get things back on the right track with overhead rod holders and some bins for my ice suit and clothing. I'm thinking maybe milk crates for the tackle boxes and small bins for reels with silica packets or something?

What do yall do to dry things out, prevent corrosion, and store things in the off season?

I keep my stuff in the den. I use totes also and with all the meds I take the absorbers wind up tackle boxes.

Are you near Holliston??  There is a company that is giving away stackable crates that have foldable tops. Like the ones you see at the rear of Walgreens etc for their shipping of merchandise. I forget size but they are about 20 long 12 high and15 wide. Looks like they had hundreds trying to think if I need them for something.

Bart,

That is a real excellent example of a man-cave alright.

A role model to follow.

Thank you for sharing.

Get a dehumidifier in the basement..  not only does it get rid of odors  from wet carpet ect also helps dry stuff out.. basements are naturally damp from being under ground..  I am guessing your house has a humidifier on the furnace if not get a seprate model... or bolth ?

get coat hangers hang up till dry set hubs and flip overs up in basement till dry .. I even oil and greese the hubs and cheeck tightness of poles reglue ect... if lose repair fabric and so on in the basement.. when I put clothes away I fold up and throw moth ball or two in the box I store it in to that or ceader strips so moths don't get in it... I  also hear about  mice if you have problems with voels or field mice?? That moth balls are great to keep them out of your gear..

Ya rod storage I cut pvc rings about 2 inch long and two inch Inside diameter screwed to studs of floor joist..  I did every three joist for soft water rods and every joist for hard water rods.. that's inbetween

Tackle boxes I bought those under bed bins and a couple shelf labeled the bins masking tape.  and stacked the under bed bins on shelfs..  I think 6 bins to a shelf..  is what I got .. or two totes explained later.. under bed bins there fairly good sized .. but always open boxes up and let air dry out after season is over before storing in boxes don't want a  bunch of rusty hooks.. that break on first next use..

Tip ups big items I store in a big 20 or 40 gallon totes same with coffee pots grills ect all get stored in bigger totes..  I have the batteries charged year round cause I use them with radios and ect so there always good..  for the fish finder but I leave the ff battery out  so I can get to it .. and charge ans use it...

matt,
Mine is more of an “all-season” storage. Here are a couple of pics!

I built an Ice Fishing Shed with two large doors and shelving to store my sleds. The bottom even accommodates a large Clam X300.

Wow. Just wow. Great job guys. Don’t think I will post mine. Lol.
I asked my wife this morning if my flip over sled was in the shed, downstairs or in my sons basement. Because we sometimes have mice, I stored it at my sons. Old age memory.
I plan to live forever. So far so good!

I put an outhouse on the upper side that I call:

Poo Corner

I carved and painted the plaque.

It has a heated toilet seat that is AMAZING in -20.
