Repairing a jet sled
« on: Oct 05, 2006, 06:51 AM »
Our Jet sled has seen quite a few years of service and has developed a 1inch by 4 inch hole in the bottom by the back. Short of using duct tape, has anyone else had to repair a hole like this? What would you recommend? Any tips will be appreciated.
Thank you,
Roy

If you want to repair the hole before doing Beans suggestion you can do it easily with plastic edging and hot glue. Cut a piece of black plastic edging slightly larger than the hole and hot glue it from the inside ... use the hot glue stick for plastic. Cut a piece of edging to fit the hole from the outside .. if it's the same thickness. Now from the outside hot glue the piece in place and fill any gaps. I did this on a trap base years ago and it lasted over a season.

add some teflon runners on the bottom and patch the hole with plastic sheeting, sealant, and rivets/machine screws with large washers.

I would just toss the sucker and get a new one because they're pretty cheap to begin with.  Just be very careful pulling it across blacktop and rocks and they'll last a long time.  If you've got a "few" years out of it you did well.

I'd rather spend a few dollars repairing it than buying a new one. I have an up coming wedding next summer. ;)

Wedding?  Perfect, just take the money you would have spent for a gift, buy a new sled, put a screen over the hole in the old one, fill it with dirt, and give the lucky couple their new 'planter'!!   ::)

An upcoming wedding?  Buy a new one now, in fact buy everything you ever wanted now.  It may be a while before you get another chance.

A few strings of tin cans trailing behind a new Jet Sled would be the perfect touch as you head out to the honeymoon shanty ;)!  What's traditional the saying:

Something old (your old ice fishing addiction)
Something new (your new Jet Slet)
Something borrowed (perhaps a two person snowmobile to pull the new Jet Sled)
Something blue (multi-colored jig assortment of course) ::) ::)

Keep the advice coming guys... I've been showing it to the future Mrs. adkRoy and she thinks it is hilarious. I told her up front that come fall I'm out in the woods (she supports my hunting but does not want to hunt herself) and that I'm on the ice in the winter. She tried icefishing and she loves it. She did tell me that I have to buy the wedding band before a new jetsled though. :pinch:
