correct hooks/rigging
« on: Sep 24, 2006, 09:22 PM »
This is my first year icefishing and I'm not sure if i have the right equipment. My girlfriend got me a Frabill Panfish Popper and Mitchell Avocet Gold for my birthday. I'm having trouble finding ice-fishing lure, hooks etc... Anyway, i have some small painted jigheads about 1/60 i think. The local petshop sells kingworms, mealworms, waxworms (which I'll use) and I was wondering if I could use them on these jigheads? If I can should i add anything like a small piece of rubber worm to add body or just hook the waxworm? all answers/ideas are welcome of course

What state will you be fishing in and for what species?  I assume onely jigging and no tipups or downs correct?

There are alot of places online to get jigs

these are some great jigs pricey but work well
http://www.yourbobbersdown.com/Order%20handpainted.htm these are similar to Marmooska's that i Like to use. Marmookska's are made by HT enterpirses  i know someone on here knows where you can get some online.

heres another jig site http://www.jamminjigs.com/

and another http://www.baddoglures.com/

good luck I always seem to have better luck with the smaller jigs  tipped with one maggot or one waxie

For the sunnies I like using a small teardrop jig or hali tipped with a couple waxies or 1 meal worm. I like the hali for deeper water and a teardrop for shallower water.

I'm having trouble finding ice-fishing lure, hooks etc...

It's still a little early for the ice gear to be in stores yet.
I would recommend waiting a month or so and check out the stuff yourself.

Wish, I had a girlfriend that bought fishing stuff for me.  :o Lucky man kscrappie!  ;) I've got a wonderful wife, and the a girlfriend thing wouldn't work with her.  ;) kscrappie, take this girl to a LOCAL BAITSHOP, and find out the answers to your area fishing conditions.
