It’s almost here!
« on: Nov 12, 2019, 08:44 AM »
Forecast has me prepping. Going to go looking for ice on Sunday! With the cold we should get some small high elevation ponds to lock up tight this week! Seen a bunch of skimming on rivers and ponds this week already!

Bring on the hardwater! Stay safe if you do venture out onto any ice this weekend and good luck!
Perch bait- a small minnow that can have big results in the ice fishing game.  :icefish:

OMG yes.
I might be a little sad if I don't get to kayak fish for browns and salmon in December.  But only a little.

very exciting !  I can't believe Monkton Pond could be frozen already... wish I could go check but am tied up today and this weekend so would be very interested in a scouting report, but stay safe out there ! Thickness of early ice varies a lot in a short distance.

Only about 3 inches at the launch and gets thin really quick, but I'll take it. Maybe it will be fresh fish and turkey for Thanksgiving.

rfogg, thanks for the report !  not surprising it gets thin quick, good to know you stayed safe... with the cold weather hitting tonight through the weekend I am optimistic it will be good for Thanksgiving pike !

Not sure what to make of the forecast.  Looks like I might be kayaking after all.  So close!

Converse bay is wide open. Lewis Creek launch is locked up. You could also drop the kayak off the shore in Wallon's bay. Be safe!

I know this is a little off topic but for those of you who fish Champlain and have caught pike-pickerel hybrids through the ice, do they behave and locate more with chain pickerel or northerns? Also having never caught a chain through the ice what depths and structure or cover do they relate to most commonly? I live out west (Wyoming) so I've caught pike and have a general idea what to look for icefishing for them. I really enjoyed flyfishing for chains when I lived in Tennessee but icefishing for them wasn't an option. Thanks for any information or advice anyone can provide.
