Should I worry about Photobucket?
« on: Sep 24, 2019, 01:21 PM »
I have several old posts with several pictures being ransomed. Should I worry?
I have had several things happen that have prevented me from being as active as I use too.
I am raising my grandkids is the biggest time taker. Raising a 4yr old 9 and 10 yr old also.
Not the place I imagined myself.
Then the weather has been horribly warm the last few winters, so I think whats the use?
I sit all year waiting for safe ice, and nothing happens!!
But back to my original question, Should I pay a ransom or just move on?

Thanks Guys!

There was a long thread on this maybe do a search! I think the ultimate consensus was if you really had to get the pictures pay, otherwise move on. See if you can find the thread. As I remember there were several options offered by users who were going through it at the time.

When PB got greedy I pulled all my stuff offa their site and am now using a service called PostImage. It's free, easy and it works well. Oh, wait, I did leave one image on PB...

Looks like they've lost the PB watermark on "free" accounts but it's still slow, inefficient and loaded with invasive ads. I say walk away Rick.

Update - Looks like I was wrong. The "free" accounts will have that intrusive watermark to try to wring some $$ out of you. All the more reason to leave.

I keep getting the ransom emails also but they shot them selves in the foot by trying to charge for image hosting. There's so many other places that dont charge and by far are easier to use. I have been using IMGUR and have great success from them. The only downfall is its not usable on phones for reducing pic size for posts, but like metioned above the "attach image" button is now there for a quick way to post a pic

I never used the service, just seems like they could have said sorry we are going to start charging if you don’t want to pay here are your pictures back. Maybe a class action lawsuit?

FWIW you can still get all or some of your pics back but it is a tedious process. You've got to go to PB, open each pic individually, right click and select "Save Image As". Then choose the location you wish to save it to. I created a new folder on the desktop (temporarily) so I could easily see what I had and didn't have.

Plan on spending a lot of time. Between PBs slow speeds and barrage of intrusive ads a coupla hundred pic could take an afternoon or early evening. That's if you don't get frustrated first and call in an air strike on the creeps.  ::) Just sayin', there is a way.
