Bomoseen depth chart
« on: Feb 21, 2019, 11:00 PM »
Geetings all,
Newbie here with a question for you. I read an old thread that Toms bait & tackle has Bomo depth charts, but they don't carry them any more, last one is tacked on the wall by the door. The VT DEC page has over 100 lake depth charts,(lakes also with associations) but not Bomo. An email to them said they have a deal with the Bomo lake Assoc not to create one so they (the Association) can sell their own maps to help fund their projects etc. Didn't see anything on their web site about purchasing a map either.
Seems "Fishy" to me. Two public boat launches and a State park, but the State can't make a depth chart the public can access for fishing?
I drive two hours to get there, drill blindly and strike out. Not fun. So, (1) Is there a depth chart of the lake to be had? (2) any other lake associations have a sweet heart deal like this? Thanks.

I did a quick search on Lake Bomoseen Association in Google and found there brochure which has instructions on becoming a member for $15 and another $5 if you want a map of the lake.

I use Navionics all the time.  You can move around to whatever waterbody you want to see, zoom in and out, etc.  Very handy.

It's not on navionics.  Here is one that I found.

Bomo is on navionics on my phone. Checked the old version and the new one, both have a map that looks pretty decent.

this is the most accurate one that I have seen so far.  Navionics shows 1 FOW when it is supposed to be 40

CF2, Do you ever notice that Navionics is inaccurate? I seem to, at times, always find drastically different depths with it unless I use the "Sonar chart" option (or whatever its second set of contours are)?

I have been thinking of purchasing the Hummingbird map app for my Iphone. I saw a brief comment on that app in another thread; Anybody familiar with it?
Load it, Drive it, Park it
Bait it, Jig it, Hook it
Catch it, Clean it, Cook it
Simply put just get out/ and do it

Navionics gives me an idea of the contours.  I don't use it to try to navigate to a specific piece of structure.  Some bodies of water it is more accurate than others.  And, yes, the "Sonar chart" or whatever seems to be more accurate than the base charts.  I don't have it on a phone, so I look for contours on the computer and then try to find them on the ice by popping holes and testing with the fishfinder.  Kind of a pain sometimes!

Haha, yes it can be a pain at times... Nothing like getting it done how they used to in the days that lacked the technology.

Mad Tom- yes there is a website but some of the info may be outdated. https://dec.vermont.gov/watershed/lakes-ponds/data-maps/charts
