Underwater lights?

I'm fairly new to the ice fishing game so I was wondering if someone could give me some advice. When I night fish sometimes I drop a led light in the water. It seems to pull bait fish in and have had good success with it. Is it dumb to think about trying this on the ice? Just wondering. If anyone has advice I would greatly appreciate it.
