« on: Dec 14, 2018, 01:59 PM »
So Ive heard you van use a cordless drill to power an augur to make it easier, but what are the requirements to do this? IE what kind of drill do you need to do this?

Make sure it's a brushless model , with at least 700 in lb of torque would be nice and also battery(s) with a 5 ah rating would be good. Do you have any other battery power tools  already?

A brushless drill with nothing less than 1200 inch pounds of torque and a min. 5 ah lithium-ion battery.  A 1/2 " Milwaukee M-18 fuel is a good starting point.

What works good for me is a Clam auger drill plate and the lower section of my Strikemaster 6" or 7" hand auger.  I power it with a 20 volt DeWalt drill and carry an extra 2 amp battery in my gear.

If you ask 10 guys on this Forum you'll get 13 different answers and they're probably all correct.
We're born, we live for a while, and then we die.  Sounds like a good reason to go ice fishing.

My 2 cents worth. I have a 700 Inch Pound Ridgid and it works great on my 7" Mini Nero auger. Just got back from fishing again today. What a beautiful day it was.

Basic requirements.
Min torque of 750 in/lb
5 ah battery.
I have the new Rigid Octane 1300 in/lb w 9ah battery. Rigid has a promo deal right now, but the 9ah battery with charger for $200, and get the drill free. Hard to beat. Lifetime warranty. The Milwaukee fuel 1200 is also popular. Here’s a review video I did on my Rigid.

Same here. I have the rigid brushless I got for $130 last year with the impact drill and 2 4ah batteries.

I originally paid more for just the drill and 2 2ah batteries but they were giving me problems with cutting out etc so I returned them within the return period and grabbed the other deal they were running.

I haven’t had a problem with the 4ah. Additionally a buddy of mine was having problems with his drill(diff brand) on 2ah batteries. He bought a 4ah and his problems disappeared

If price no object, get the Milwaukee Fuel Super Hawg. It will drive a 10 inch auger all day.

It was designed to drive a 6 inch wood bit through large pieces of wood all day on a set of batteries.

It is THE beast of ice fishing drills.

so now that you know the minimum requirements for some augers you'll need to buy one.
the best deal is on right now until end of the year. you get the drill for free if you buy the battery/charger kit. there is no better deal on drills. sounds like you have an auger. you'll need an adapter next to adapt the auger to the drill. i have been using the kovac icemaster 2 for that. works very well.
here's a link to get you started on the drill.
