I believe it was 2015, the last time we had good ice in the Irish Hills for Christmas Holidays

Many lakes from Clare north and northeast are being fished. 10-12" of snow is tough to hall thru but waiting for ice here will drive ya nuts.

2" in Branch co. with another inch of half frozen snow on top. I've seen half a dozen guys on this ice standing in puddles. When I was young and dumb, I would be there with them. My son helped pull a guy from the lake this week. the guy walked off the end of the pier without even a spud. went right through up to his neck. This is why you don't follow others without checking for yourself. Stay safe!

I just checked some lakes near me. Vineyard has 2.5" and someone has been fishing. The ice was cracking for me. Wamplers, Sand, and Iron. had 2''. No evidence of fishing. Round across the road from Wamplers had 1". Clark and Allen still have patches of open water. I didn't check thickness on Vandercook or Michigan Center lake but nobody has been on them. Maybe a week yet if we are lucky.

About the person who fell through, it was mellencamp lake, 2 kids whose dad said not to go there. They got out but didnt tell anyone because they lied to their dad. No one drowned.

It would be a lot more reliable if the weather was. Numbers don't lie, meteorologists do.
