Five bucks? I'da done that and I already got too much stuff. Is it the "flashlight" thingy where you shine it down the hole and you get a digital readout for depth or something else? I've had one of the flashlights for awhile and I'm still trying to figure out if I like it or not.

One tip - if it runs on AA batteries pony up for some Energizer lithium to power it. Simple alkalines don't cut it in the cold and generic rechargables are pretty much in the same boat.
To fish or not to fish? That's a stupid question!

says it's sonar, 20 degree beam angle, 2.5' to 50' depth reading
has what appears to be a transducer hung from a float
small hand held type screen, 20' of cable
4 AA batteries, guess l'll just have to give it a shot
the screen is about the size of a fat flip phone
thought maybe someone had tried one or seen one in use

Is it color, black and white or just symbols? If it's the first 2, it should work alright, at least as a starting unit or backup, and if it's just symbols, I'd guess it would really only good for depth. I believe there was a thread talking about these kinds of fish finders, I'll try to find it.
Edit:

Does it look like this?

-Johnny Cash
