1 pound test line?
« on: Oct 21, 2018, 02:36 PM »
For those of you that use light line, what brand do you use? I've been using Berkley Micro ice 1' for years without problems. After two years off the ice, (snowmobile fever) I'm refilling my rods. It seems the one pound size is no longer available.
I'm looking for a similar performing line to use. Any suggestions? Thanks.

stroft gtm

compare diameters to what you used to use and you'll find you can step up on the pound rating.
you can see that berkley .007 is their 3#
while the same diameter in stroft is their 8#

here is stroft chart                                                                                        berkley mirco ice chart

I use clear mono sewing thread.   It's super supple and plenty thin.  Plenty strong enough.

I've also used Stroft GTM line with good results. Going to give 1lb.  Sunline Premium FC Ice a try this year. Line diameter is larger than Stroft, but has advantage in durability/abrasion resistance.

also in 109 yd and 219yd.
just use backer so you only use what you need of this line on each reel. 27 yards is 81 feet tho.
it's a german line and only available here
https://www.lostcreekflies.com/shop/search/stroft
i called there once and they said call anytime when i wanted to know more info. they said they can get bulk and other sizes. just depends on whats going on at the time.
you can stretch your dollar out by reversing the line instead of replacing as often.

I picked up two spools of this a couple months ago for $2ish a spool in the gold color. Was randomly browsing amazon and saw it for super cheap so I grabbed the last two spools. Excited to try it out, as it seems like nice stuff and I needed new line anyway. Can’t argue with that price!

I have no idea why I even use less than 2# lines...

ASSO Ultralight and Ice Heavy...
Berkly Fireline Crystal and some leftover Stren Microfuse 2#
