My biggest Lake George laker of the year !
« on: Feb 17, 2018, 11:43 PM »
Check it out landed 2 nice fish. The weather picked up and blew me off the ice. Sorry for the wind noise in the last clip wind was blowing 20-30 mph!

I use to open water fish all the time. I had a 20ft seanympth ( blue) sold it and bought a 35foot carver I keep on the sacandaga. Now I just fish off the dock behind the boat I catch a few eyes all the time

Filming ice fishing is so hard on a big lake. The wind is always the biggest challenge. Shortly after after that first segment of me talking the wind blew my tripod over into the slush with my $1500 dslr camera on it. That’s why most of the actual fishing footage is off my GoPro hero 5 black. It’s rugged and the elements don’t have an effect on it. I got a drone this year to make some killer b-roll but it’s been too windy to fly it over the lake. Hopefully maybe on the next video !

Why? This is nothing.

Did you know that we can watch the Elite bass pro’s fish all 4 of their tournaments live now? Getting any type of sponsorship now consists on your multimedia videos/ Facebook friends/ instagram etc. it’s all about exposure now.

Let’s face it. It’s just the way it is now.

Not withstanding, it was a neat video but in todays society, to much is about self exposure.  We are not bassmasters doing this stuff for a living but instead just average fishermen/ women out to have a great adventure. What saddens me is the feel for the need to tell the world how great or "Epic" that adventure was. Lets face it folks, mass media has ruined many good fishing spots today and to say its just the way it is today, only makes me feel it's going to get worse.
There was a time you'd go fishing and take a few pictures with your 110 Kodak camera and call it good. Sharing those pictures with friends and family. Once again, far to many today feel the need to self promote themselves through mass media to everyone and anyone.
Now don't get me wrong, it's neat to a point but gets out of hand when drones and production equipment out weigh the purpose of why we go fishing .
For the record, I will not allow a drone to invade my public rights to freedom. No drone is safe if they fly over me without my permission unless used by law enforcement  safety purposes. It is a requirement you must have permission .

Story:
There were some kids flying 1 in a field next to my house . They thought it was cool to fly it over us while we were in the pool on my property. I got out and told them "if that thing comes over my property once more, it will never fly again" . They left.

I say to each is own.  If your idea of an epic trip includes producing content more power to you.  Some fish for themselves some fish for the fans.

If you want to deal with the extra hassle of bringing video equipment/cameras on the ice then go for it but my only concern is when the fish is being handled too much just for the sake of some footage.  Handling, dropping and then grabbing slippery trout again with gloves over and over just for some video or photos is not good for the slime coat of the fish so at that point you might as well keep it since you likely are killing it anyway.  Fish like bass/walleye are much easier to stabilize than trout and if there is a second person that also makes it easier to photo/video then release fish unharmed.

One thing you have to remember is that not everyone fishes for the same season. But I think we can all agree we do it to have a good time. Some people fish to put food on the table. Others fish for sport. I strictly fish for fun and I don’t take it too seriously. If I catch one fish or 100 I really don’t care. My other hobby is photography and filmmaking.  So filming a fishing trip isn’t a hassle it’s just as fun as the fishing part of the trip in my eyes. So if I can combine the 2 it’s a win win for me! When drones are used in a responsible manner they are a great tool and are really fun to play around with. I hope to add some nice drone footage in my next video

Your film/camera skills are evident with putting the whole thing together   Definitely takes some talent to do that.

Those videos are fun to watch.  One of my favorites is Uncut angling.  He is funny and really knows how to put together a video and how to fish.  I kind of agree with an earlier post that said drones are annoying if they are constantly buzzing around over you while out on the lake.  Although a buzzing drone is better that a pack of snowmobilers buzzing you at 60mph or somebody doing endless donuts on an ATV 100 yards away from you.
