No perfect machine for all conditions when ice fishing, unless you get an Argo with tracks and ice cleats.
Perhaps you should put snowmobile studs in the track instead of screw-in type. That should make a world of difference. With proper studs you shouldn't get stuck on glare ice or even a few inches of slush. It might cost you a few hundred with labor, but you're already thinking new track anyway. The screw in type are more for ATV tires and I do use them on my tracked SXS.The phazer is a good little sled. Not the best for ice fishing but if you do some trail riding on occasion it can double duty there. Having said that, it will be parked for the better part of the year while an ATV can be used in the summer months also. I've seen 4X4 ATV's with chains do pretty well on the ice.Got a SXS this year and tracked it that machine is awesome especially on the lake. Tracks are 4 season, they don't need snow to operate. Nice on glare ice. Still have an old snowmobile though, putting tracks on an ATV/UTV really slows it down but in the summer I put the tires back on and keep riding. People tell me the tracks are expensive but if you think of the coin you drop on a new rig and only use it a few months out of the year that is ridiculous. I can register my tracked SXS as a snowmobile and ride those trails also.
When there is snow, I prefer a sled, and where there isn't snow, well it's usually easy walking anyway.
