Which in your opinion, the guys that perch fish, would be the best place to go for a long weekend? And why?

Depends if you want huge numbers of good fish or decent numbers of huge fish. Simcoe has good quality fish by the bucket loads, and Gogebic will be a slower bite but the fish are massive. So it depends on what you're looking for. If you want to catch a bunch of average fish go to Canada, if you want the opportunity to catch a true jumbo but maybe not a lot of them, go to the UP.

That's the advice I was given from a friend that has fished both for each reason given, and he goes to both knowing what to expect.

Simcoe all the way as Gogebic if you catch 5 perch in two days that's a lot andthey might not be huge either.Simcoe lots of fish up to14".Been to both and no more Gogebic for me unless you got good transportation and friends to help you out

I'd rather do a new York or Ohio Erie trip.... perch and piglet walleye... But to each his own

SIMCOE all the way...

This surprises me.  I've always been told Simcoe for "eaters" and Gogebic for "wall hangers"

Gogebic you do have a chance at wall mounter but might not catch hardly any perch either.Went twice and we caught Like 12 perch total and no wall mounters.I would go one more time as you do have a chance at a two pounder where Simcoe you will catch lots a pound and over but probably not a two pounder

This is probably good advice, but honestly I have every piece of equipment I need and still have Gogebic on my wish list.  With kids getting into sports soon, I may not get another chance to head up there.  A couple of these posts seem so doom-and-gloom, I've always heard good things about both of these lakes. I think I'm still going to make my plans with 'FishWithGuy' and hope for the best.

If your wanting to fill the freezer go to Simcoe....if you want a chance at a 2#+ perch go to Gogebic in early/mid March, knowing that you might fish sunup to sundown and catch 5 fish.  You will need a tracked vehicle to navigate Gogebic.

I fished Gogebic last March for first time for a day on way to Chequanegon Bay on Superior.
3 of us fished almost all day
My buddies who typically do better than me didn't and I ended up with 5 perch.
3 I should have mounted.  Still mad at myself for not.
They caught 3 between them, 1 was a dandy.
Went back last August and boated a dozen walleye trolling one morning.
Great lake to fish for trophy perch.
Stop at the JW's BBQ.  Awesome food.

I've got buddies who rave about Simcoe.  Good quality fish come from there and I've seen a lot of videos with underwater cameras and if in the right areas there are massive schools of perch.

Fished Gogebic all the time when I was living in the UP.  Had a lot of fun on that lake and caught some dandy fish. Yes, there are absolute Giant Perch in there.

Started making trips to Simcoe since I moved to the LP and I now prefer Simcoe to Gogebic by a mile.

You always hear about people catching lots of "small" (8-10") fish on Simcoe. If one was to only stay and fish in Cooks Bay I could see that being the norm.  However, the guys traveling to some of the Deeper Flats, and other lesser known spots know the true potential of that lake.

Simcoe churns out giants like the best of them.  Last time we were there was probably our best trip on big (13.5"+) fish, and we even saw a few 15"ers being weighed at a local bait shop.

Gogebic can be finicky.  You're three times as likely to go there and not catch a Perch over the span of a few days than you are at Simcoe. Simcoe fits my style of fishing a bit better as well; I'd rather jig spoons and rip jigging raps out there and cover water over having to dead stick Wigglers on Gogebic (Gogebic fish are notorious for being extremely picky, whereas we caught them on everything from Tungstens, to raps, to spoons on Simcoe.)

A bonus fish on Gogebic is a <14" walleye or <24" pike while a bonus fish on Simcoe could be a 10lb Lake Trout or 6lb Whitefish, which makes fishing the slightly deeper water a bit more exciting.

But to be honest, you'll have fun at either place you go.

As luck would have it I got invited to fish Simcoe March 4-7.  Staying near Duclos Point/McRae Beach. Hopefully we can get on them, my buddy I'm going there with has fished it multiple times and raves about looking down your hole at a pile of jumbos.  We shall see!!

Good as they were in same spot the first day we could have kept our limit but we threw back some of bigger ones.Day 2 we got 60 and in half a day on Friday only 20 or so as they slowed down that day.Had quite a few 13" with a couple right at 14".Most all caught on slab grabbers and I used a tungsten with plastic wigglers the whole time
