Any Denver Area Ice Safe to Fish?
« on: Jan 12, 2018, 05:42 PM »
I've been following the forum for a while and figured I would finally sign up.  Looks like a great group of fellas.  Was hoping to head up to Green Mountain this weekend, but other stuff came up so I have to stick closer to home...Any one been out today or know if there's any fishable ice in the Denver area?

A report on another site claims Cherry Creek is fishable. Don’t know about Aurora or Chatfield.

This has really been a crazy season in the Metro area. Places that should have good ice, don't. And then places you'd think are totally open water, have 5 inches reported. I am going scouting tomorrow, to see what's out there, If you go, make sure you are safe.

Can't believe Creek is still good. Ponds around Chatty were 2.5 inches. Pretty iffy, actually caught 1 sucker. Saw 3 guys out on Chatfield. 2 out from swim beach and another dude way out in the middle of the lake, all by himself. The nads on that guy, I'd can't believe he was out there, alone  :o

That is insane...I like getting out as soon as I can, but not if it means I'm going to swim back to the truck.  Not sure if he has a lot downstairs...or he's missing something upstairs.

Fished Cherry Creek 6 hours on Sunday, and it has been cold the last 35 hours, so I would say take a spud bar and test cherry creek again. the Denver Tech Center side had the best ice.

Aurora was good in the cove near the marina on Saturday morning.  4" of ice or so, out to where it opens up into the main reservoir.

The fishing...meh- 4 trout total, 1 keeper.

Cherry Creek South and North small bays have some fishable ice. I wouldn’t wander too far out unless you are wearing an inner tube or pulling a life raft. The snow melt had a negative impact on the ice; need an extended cold snap soon.

Went to Aurora this morning at least a dozen at the gate waiting for it to open, I went to Lone Tree, to meet up and was an hour behind them.  They already had 4 perch and a good Walleye on the 8 inches of ice.  Back end of cove was more like 9 inches
