its hard to really say how much we ended up with because of all the wind. 5-6ish in ypsi, 6-8ish in Ann Arbor. We had a snow band set up along I94 last night that bumped our totals  >:( but at least its cold... checked the lake just a few min ago, one spot 15-20 feet off shore was about 2in of good clear ice 1ish of the old snow ice from the last storm, an inch or so of slush and then an inch or so of crusty new snow ice... most of the double layer slush should freeze up tonight and tomorrow. another spot I checked was also layered but seemed to have less good clear ice and a thicker slush layer, I didnt even drill a hole there, just poked with a spud. Hoping that slush will freeze up there in the next day or so too.

PS my kdrill lost its virginity tonight  ::) only popped a couple holes but I am excited to put her through a foot or 2 of ice now!
Funniest thing about ice fishing for me is when people who know nothing about ice activities try to warn me about the dangers of the ice...

Thanks for the detailed ice report. Would be discouraging except that we've got so many days of frigid temps coming up. I think we'll be okay after two or three days.

Snow's gone here. Ice went to hell in a hurry. I just pulled the ice house.. Fun.. Had my Striker float suit on.  The old 12' section of alum ladder to get to it. The wind and rain really cut it bad last night. Good ice out to where it was, but 1 hit with the spud and it punched thru. Got it tipped on the runners and pulled it in. It's on shore now. I'm done for a while..

Only a skiff of snow over night Montcalm county. I saw the southern part of the state was getting it hard when I got up.

I saw it is starting to snow again here when I got up to get another cup of coffee. Radar shows that there a few little bands of snow around so it should not be a big deal. We do not need snow to hinder the lake from freezing back up after all the rain yesterday.

With the lakes having water on top I assume they will absorb most of the snow we get today.

Clare had a good 10" yesterday PM. Ice isn't going anywhere and the snow coming down is just gonna make more ice this time. Looking like a 1980's style brutal winter.
I like to sit around on the ice doing nothing because my wife won't let me do it at home.

Looks like we're done here an Ann Arbor/ Ypsilanti. About an inch or so here, wind is whipping it all over the place.
