Jawjacker sale??
« on: Dec 21, 2017, 03:54 AM »
Has anyone seen a sale on jawjacker? $40 seems to be the going rate from what I've seen everywhere.

I was lucky this year someone was moving back to Georgia and had 3 of them and only used one. I bought the 2 new ones from him for $30 each. Yea $39.99 plus tax is about $43.

Might want to look at a Finicky Fooler tip up. It doesn't set the hook, you leave the bail open so it is free spooling like regular tip-ups, but your using a rod and reel. $10 less than the JJ. www.finickyfooler.com

I've seen them on sale for $29.99/ea, but not very often.  Just be patient.  I've got one, but wouldn't mind adding a few more to my arsenal.  After adding an Ugly Stick combo, you're looking at around $75 at full retail.  A little too costly for my blood...

That thing is awesome. Doesn't leave stress on the rod like the Automatic Fisherman (not knocking them, I have two and love them). Great ingenuity there.

i made two of these for under 10 bucks.  seen some on you tube and simplified them a bit.  took all of 20 min. to do the complete build.  works just fine with me pulling the line.  simply adjust setting  by bending the wire release.

all 3/4 pvc with a 1" piece for the rod handle.  drill and screw in the eye screw to hold wire. could make around 8-10 of them for 40$

Best thing to do is get them when there's 20-40% off sales. If you can work free shipping and no tax in there its great. Cheapest I've picked any up this year was $31 at Dicks and Kittery on their sales.

Agree sold all 5 jackers and went to the Foolers, never go back. I love the challenge of setting the hook and reeling in VS my gear taking all the challenge out of ice fishing and just picking up the rod a reel it in. Different opinions from everyone , just my honest opinion and the foolers allow different settings from light pannies to pike with NO FOD STRESS!

Go to Youtube and type in Hooksetter or Jaw Jacker. Lots of home made ones. I have 3 or so I made but bought two of the Jaw Jackers this year. One of the ones I made works good though.

I've noticed a lot of the homemade ones, and even the AK Salmon one, are bending the rod in the opposite direction its design intended.

Are you guys finding that to be problematic over time?

I use the Medium Ugly Stiks and they work great for Trout. My home made one I have used doesn't bend the rod the wrong way either.

mine doesn't bend it much because the rat trap is what provides the setting power, not pre loading the rod.

The aksalmonbear looks like it would work pretty slick, but I just like the way that those jawjackers fold up to such a compact size.

Yes, I agree!! I like how the jaw jackers compact in size. I would definitely try one of those Aksalmonbear ones but I don't want to spend $40 on a jawjackers so I'm not spending $50 on that. The Aksalmonbear one seem much more simply made and it cost more idk why..

Just because that is how I am I was wondering how to make one of those aksalmonbear Devices. After watching their videos and looking at it a lot. I decided they are not worth getting at even $20. Here is my reason. That spring loaded part of it slams up against the metal part that is hooked to PVC. How long do you think that is going to happen before something breaks? Might be a reason they sell new PVC and hardware parts right on the site. Just not practical to me. Looked cool when I first looked at it but not after I tried to figure out a way to make one. Thoughts are dime a dozen and mine are no different.

Still trying to sell the two JJs I picked up. (No takers at half list price.) Didn't go to their site to find out they're illegal to use in MN. Fairly new to this (water doesn't get hard around SF!). Don't really care for traditional type tipups, so usually just set rods out (deadstick?). Was looking for a way to flag that would work in at least moderate wind. The FFs look slick, but will have to DIY it.
