Swivels with Spoons
« on: Dec 14, 2017, 10:14 AM »
Do you think using a small ball swivel about 2 feet above a spoon will stop the spinning? It may also prevent line twist. I was thinking that line twist comes from reeling in fish vertically; think about it, the fish is spinning as you reel him in.
How about using a snap swivel with a spoon.? I think they recommend this in open water. I read an article in PA Angler where the author put a ring and a small ball swivel on all of his spoons; though it seems like a lot of work.

I use a small swivel to attach my braid to my flourocarbon leader on the rods I use for walleye. It works great for me.

micro swivels, the ball ones are too big. unless you are fishing really big spoons. snap on the end.

The ones I use are very small, only about a 1/4 long and very skinny. They are quite strong though. They slide through the eylets on my ice rods.

I wouldn't think it would be too big when tied to a 2 or 3 foot leader. In fact, it works very well.

Same here, braid to barrel swivel to floro leader. NO spin issues.

Depends on spoon type and actual action you're trying to achieve.

Putting a swivel directly onto the spoon will allow a spoon to flutter more freely.  Some spoon will in effect start to spin like a spinning blade.
