Lake Champlain Laker Fishing

Hey All,

I wanted to plan my first trip to ice fish Champlain for some Lakers this winter, and just had some questions for people who have some answers! Was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on cheaper places to stay (whether VT or NY side) for a couple days that's within a 20 minute drive to the lake. Also, since this lake is larger, was wondering what parts freeze and have safe ice with decent chances at some Lakers/whites. Would probably be looking into March for the trip, so whatever parts of the lake that are normally frozen with safe ice would be great to hear from! Can PM me if you're afraid of "spot burning" but just a general point is fine for us to get on some fish. Thanks in advanced!

Main lake, deep bays like Shelburne, Champlain bridge below Vergennes as far north to Platty as ice permits.
Check ice reports as to where ice is on the lake. Inland sea is not laker water although I have seen them get caught
north of causeway bridge. Champ has a lot of laker water, hoping for ice...

There was very little laker water frozen last season on Champlain.
